Your Role

As an Engineering Manager for the VPP Core Domain, you will lead a team of skilled backend engineers working on systems that control and monitor essential Dutch energy assets. You'll provide both technical direction and people leadership in an environment that demands performance, reliability, and scale.

You'll shape architectural strategy, make strategic technical decisions, and ensure your team delivers robust event-driven and distributed solutions. Alongside engineering impact, you'll oversee people development, hiring, 1-to-1s, and support the long-term success of your engineers and services.   • Making strategic technical decisions to maintain performance and reliability in distributed systems
  • Shaping and driving the team's architectural vision to meet future demands, scale, and compliance
  • Acting as a technical ambassador to senior stakeholders, product partners, and leadership
  • Managing daily team operations, including hiring, onboarding, development, and 1-to-1 sessions
  • Cultivating a culture of psychological safety, ownership, and accountability
  • Collaborating cross-functionally to align technical outcomes with product objectives and timelines
  • Partnering with product managers to deliver impactful and timely solutions
  • Championing observability, metrics, and monitoring to help achieve SLO targets

Your Team

You will lead the engineers working in the VPP Core Domain, a group responsible for mission-critical systems that steer and monitor essential assets within the Dutch national electricity grid. The team operates in a high-stakes environment where performance, scalability, and resilience are essential.

Collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement form the foundation of the culture. As their Engineering Manager, you'll empower talented engineers, foster growth, and ensure the delivery of high-value, production-grade systems built with modern distributed technologies. Together, you will help shape Eneco's energy infrastructure and accelerate the digital transition., You work 40% in the office, 40% at home, and 20% flexibly. With your manager's approval, you may work up to 3 weeks per year abroad (in approved countries), with a maximum of 2 consecutive weeks.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of engineering experience with at least 3 years in an engineering management role
  • Strong background in .NET/C# and building high-performance backend systems
  • Proficiency in Azure and cloud-native architecture patterns
  • Experience with Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform), and modern DevOps practices
  • Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases, such as MongoDB or Cosmos DB
  • Experience working with messaging technologies (Kafka, Event Hubs, RabbitMQ)
  • Proven leadership skills in team building, mentorship, architectural decision-making, and delivery
  • (Optional) Exposure to Vue.js is a plus
