Excellent opportunity for a Staff Firmware Engineer to join a highly innovative business where you will become the technical authority for embedded firmware, set best practice across development and quality, and take ownership of the firmware roadmap for new and existing products. This company have ambitions to become a household name by building upon a stellar reputation built within elite and professional sports, and are now investing heavily in next-generation connected products. In this role, you'll take end-to-end ownership of firmware across their platforms, acting as the go-to expert for embedded systems. You'll develop C/C++ firmware for Nordic SoCs (nRF52/nRF53), working within RTOS or bare-metal environments to deliver ultra-reliable low-power performance. You'll lead improvements to firmware standards, testing and validation, and drive reliability and maintainability across production and field performance. You'll also integrate wireless communication technologies such as BLE, ANT+, and Wi-Fi, and work closely with electronics, mechanical, app, cloud, and manufacturing partners to ensure seamless connectivity and performance. The ideal candidate will have deep embedded firmware experience (C/C++), strong exposure to Nordic SoCs or similar low-power architectures, and the leadership mindset to take accountability for technical decisions, process, and outcomes. Experience implementing robust testing frameworks, bootloaders, OTA updates, and system diagnostics would be advantageous. The Role: *Technical ownership of embedded firmware across new and existing connected products *Develop and optimise C/C++ firmware for Nordic SoCs (nRF52/nRF53) in RTOS/bare-metal environments *Drive firmware standards, quality improvements, and testing/validation best practice *Integrate connectivity (BLE/ANT+/Wi-Fi) and collaborate across hardware, app, cloud and manufacturing teams *Hybrid working from Nottingham (2-3 days per week)
Requirements
*Staff/Senior Firmware Engineer with strong embedded C/C++ experience (microcontroller-based systems) *Proven ownership mindset, able to lead technical decisions and raise engineering standards *Strong experience with low-power systems and RTOS or bare-metal environments *Good connectivity knowledge (BLE plus ideally ANT+ and/or Wi-Fi)
