What you'll be doing...
Engineering & Delivery

Taking ownership of the backend codebase, ensuring high code quality, test coverage and documentation.

Translating product requirements, wireframes and user stories into performant, maintainable backend solutions.

Collaborating closely with the Tech Lead, product team and platform engineers to deliver scalable architecture.

Building and releasing high-quality features on schedule with a strong focus on performance and efficiency.
Collaboration & Communication

Working closely with cross-functional teams including product, UI/UX, design and remote platform teams.

Supporting clear documentation and communication for smooth collaboration across locations.

Participating in joint planning, code reviews and shared backend initiatives.
Quality & Best Practices

Contributing to code reviews, CI processes and internal engineering standards.

Promoting clean code, refactoring opportunities and continuous improvement.

Helping maintain development conventions and technical best practices across the team.
Growth & Mentorship

Keeping up to date with evolving backend technologies and sharing learnings with the team.

Mentoring junior developers and contributing to a culture of curiosity, creativity and learning.
Requirements
-
5+ years of backend development experience.
-
Strong experience working in cross-functional product teams.

Advanced knowledge of AWS serverless architectures (Lambda, API Gateway) and experience with DynamoDB and MySQL.

Hands-on experience with AWS CDK for Infrastructure-as-Code.

Advanced proficiency in TypeScript and frameworks such as TSOA, with experience delivering robust RESTful APIs and OpenAPI/Swagger documentation.

Practical knowledge of S3 and CloudFront for storage, delivery and optimisation.

Ability to work independently while aligning with wider architectural and product goals.

Comfortable with early-stage discovery, prototyping and dealing with ambiguity.

Experience with educational platforms, games or mission-driven digital products is a bonus.
