Developer Experience Engineer

At DPG Media we develop consumer products used by millions of customers and in-house products used daily by thousands of journalists and other users. We do this using advanced cloud and development technologies and with a continuous development and agile approach. Within the Development Enablement Area, we support these dozens of development teams by levering our scale and technological development to enhance development efficiency and quality. This is to be achieved through various outcomes, including the following ones:

• Lower developer friction by providing a set of reusable building blocks based on the platform-as-a-product principle.
• Enhance development efficiency, quality & experience through various modern techniques
• Increased code consistency and quality
• Reduced developer workplace setup time
• Reduced lead time for changes

There are multiple techniques to achieve these objectives:

• Exposure of an Internal Developer platform (IDP) based on Backstage
• Development & maintenance of reusable code templates
• Simplification of the programming languages and CI/CD pipeline landscape
• Standardisation and application of best practices
• Adoption of DevGenAI & vibe coding practices
• Establishment of a Development Community of Practice: making sure to foster feedback loops & to create the IT development strategy.

Development Experience is a rather new & innovative space, so the techniques listed above will definitely evolve over time. Embracing change is part of the job.

What will you do:

• Technical implementation of all the components belonging to the Development Experience initiative. This includes technologies like Backstage, Github Enterprise Cloud, Bitrise, AWS CodePipeline, AWS ECS, etc. This list will definitely expand towards the future. The programming / IaC languages used are mostly TypeScript, Java, Python, Terraform & AWS CDK.
• Contribution to technical architecture documentation
• Document procedures, common issues, and solutions to help others find answers quickly.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues, acting as some of the responders for user requests & incidents.
• Build positive relationships with stakeholders, contributing to our Developer Relations efforts.
• Continue developing your own expertise in our key technology areas (AWS, CI/CD, Github, artifact management, DevGenAI, Backstage).
• Help shape our engineering culture by sharing knowledge, setting best practices, and actively participating in our data community through co-location days, guilds, and communities of practice.

You work in an Agile team of driven and enthusiastic engineers, in close collaboration with the Scrum Master, Product Owner and Area Manager.

Do you have experience in TypeScript?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, * You're an experienced engineer in IT, who enjoys solving problems and helping others succeed.

• You demonstrate the analytical and learning capabilities.
• With your open mindset and approachable attitude, you maintain positive and effective relationships with the development community.
• You are a natural communicator, approachable and empathetic. You're skilled at explaining technical topics to different levels of expertise.
• You are results-oriented and strive daily to improve yourself, the process, and the product in a natural way.
• Knowledge about one or more of the following areas will definitely help: frontend / backend development, system engineering, public cloud (AWS), developer tools, DevGenAI, etc.
• You thrive on troubleshooting and take a proactive approach to finding solutions.
• You recognize and apply Agile values in your daily work.
• Most of all, you're passionate about creating a positive, supportive user experience across our Development Enablement portfolio.

Nice to have:

• Experience with most of the technology areas described above.
• Being fluent in both Dutch and English.
• Holding at least an HBO/Bachelor's degree.
