Job description

Location - The position is a Hybrid working Senior Network Engineering role with minimum 2 days site-based in one of the DXC reginal delivery centres in Glasgow or Newcastle. Expectation is the successful candidate will cover project delivery on UK Secure accounts., We are seeking a skilled Firewall Engineer to design, implement, manage, and troubleshoot firewall solutions in a large multi-vendor/multi-site environment for a DXC Customer. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of firewall technologies, network security principles, and best practices to ensure robust defence against cyber threats. The role focus will cover Firewall and Security infrastructures, with a key focus on Palo Alto, Cisco, Juniper and Tufin product portfolios. Expectation is the successful candidate will have proven work experience in a challenging, multi-vendor environment working as part of a team delivering both project engineering and support functions., * Design, deploy, configure, and maintain firewall infrastructure (e.g., Palo Alto, Cisco, Juniper).

  • Monitor firewall performance and analyse security logs to detect and respond to security incidents.
  • Implement firewall rules, policies, and access control lists (ACLs) based on organizational security requirements.
  • Collaborate with network, security, and IT teams to ensure seamless integration of firewall systems.
  • Conduct firewall rule reviews, audits, and compliance checks regularly.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve firewall-related issues promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Stay updated with the latest security threats and firewall technologies to recommend improvements.
  • Document firewall configurations, changes, and procedures for audit and knowledge sharing.
  • Participate in incident response and disaster recovery planning related to firewall infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, information systems, cybersecurity or related field.
  • Proven experience as a Firewall Engineer or Network Security Engineer.
  • Strong knowledge of firewall platforms such as Palo Alto, Cisco or Juniper.
  • Experience with VPNs, IDS/IPS, and network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, etc.).
  • Familiarity with security standards such as ISO 27001, NIST, or PCI-DSS is a plus.
  • Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CCNP Security, Palo Alto PCNSE preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Currently possess SC clearance (Mandatory)., * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Skilled in time, priority, and task management.
  • Effective communication skills for interaction with customers and team members.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Capable of managing competing priorities in complex environments.
  • Professional demeanour with confidence in handling technical issues.
  • Willingness to travel as requested (Infrequent)
  • Availability for on-call work, including weekends or shifts as needed.
