Open Nuclear Network (ONN), PAX sapiens Austria programme, is an international non-profit organisation working to reduce the risk of nuclear conflict through open-source analysis, forecasting, and expert engagement. ONN's flagship initiative, Project Loop, is a monthly monitoring and forecasting cycle that integrates open-source monitoring, structured foresight, and expert judgment to identify and assess pathways of nuclear escalation across key global regions.
Primary Role: ONN is seeking an entry-level Engagement, Network and Distribution Assistant to join the Office for Engagement, Network and Distribution (OEND) and support ONN's engagement, communications and outreach activities.
The successful candidate will support the promotion of ONN materials and organisational products through website updates, social media, and broader online presence strategies; assist with the planning and delivery of meetings and events (including agendas, scheduling, invitations, and follow-up communications); and contribute to engagement with external partners, stakeholders and networks. The role also includes supporting the production of summaries, reports, and presentations on research findings; promoting ONN activities at relevant events and conferences; assisting with expert roster and project-related communications; and liaising with PAX sapiens' headquarters on communications, distribution and operational updates.
This role is well-suited for recent graduates and early-career professionals with strong organisational and communication skills, an interest in nuclear risk and international security, and a desire to support engagement, network-building and research-informed outreach in a mission-driven organisation.
Reports to:
Acting Manager, Office for Engagement, Networks & Distribution (OEND), Open Nuclear Network, The role will be based in our Vienna, Austria, office. PAX sapiens Austria, a recognised International Non-Governmental Organization, welcomes applicants from across the world and can issue work permits to successful candidates regardless of their nationality and immigration status., * Communications support (promoting materials), including website updates, social media updates, and online presence strategy.

Supporting the planning and preparation of meetings and events, including preparing agendas and timings, coordinating schedules, sending invitations, and sharing updates (such as ONN Advisory Council activities, Loop project engagement and expert roster support, and externally funded projects).

Supporting team engagement, networks, and distribution through communications with external partners and stakeholders.

Promoting organisational products and activities at relevant events and conferences.

Supporting the production of summaries, reports, and presentations on research findings.

Identifying topics and regions requiring in-depth research and engagement to assess risks and support mitigation efforts.

Supporting communications work and relationships with the US headquarters of PAX sapiens, including liaising on communications strategy, needs, distribution, and operations (e.g. PAX sapiens programmes' updates and external events spreadsheet).

Requirements
Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, * Bachelor's degree in International Relations, Security Studies, Political Science, Area Studies, Communications, Journalism or a related field.

Strong writing, editing, and research skills, with the ability to translate complex research findings into clear, accessible summaries and communications products.

Experience or demonstrated interest in communications support, including website content, social media, event promotion and stakeholder outreach.

Experience working with digital platforms such as websites, social media channels, mailing lists, or CRM and contact management systems.

Ability to work independently, strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, coordinate schedules and meet deadlines.

High level of diligence, attention to detail, and reliability in supporting ongoing projects and external communications.

Demonstrated familiarity with at least one nuclear-relevant region (in priority order), with the ability to engage on these topics in a communications and engagement context:

Desirable / Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience or demonstrated interest in communications, outreach, or engagement support, including content creation, event promotion or stakeholder communications.

Familiarity with open-source research and monitoring, particularly in support of communications, background briefings, or engagement activities.

Ability to work with large volumes of information and synthesise them into clear, concise summaries, briefs, or presentations for diverse audiences.

Exposure to or interest in international security, nuclear risk, or policy-relevant research, including communicating complex topics to non-specialist audiences.

Additional language skills relevant to ONN's areas of focus are an asset (particularly Hindi, Urdu, Arabic, Farsi, Hebrew, Russian, or East Asian languages).
