PAIs mission is to positively influence the engagement and effectiveness of our colleagues, by empowering HMRC to unlock the value of people information & insight, via our expert products and services.
You will be responsible for the design, build and delivery of key Management Information (MI) reports, using HR People Data. We build self-service reports in Power BI creating accurate, relevant, and clear visualisation for all our large and varying HR data sets. This will include engaging with our stakeholders, defining requirements, and supporting the MI Community of Practice.
You will be expected to work collaboratively with evaluation experts in the team to deliver solutions for our customers to enable them to realise the value of people related programmes and initiatives, through use of evaluation and MI., Information will be communicated through various mediums, including dashboards, monthly reporting packs, presentations, and scheduled updates. The ability to tailor the format and content to suit the needs of different audiences is essential.
Project Flexibility and Management You will be expected to work flexibly across several projects, often dealing with ambiguity, changing requirements, and diverse outputs. Adapting to shifting priorities and ensuring high-quality delivery across all assignments is a key aspect of the role.
Consultancy and Expert Advice Providing expert advice and consultancy is a central responsibility, particularly in the areas of Management Information, data analytics, evidence gathering, and data visualisation. Your expertise will guide stakeholders and help them understand and leverage data effectively.
Continuous Improvement You will drive forward ongoing improvements in the quality of datasets, reporting mechanisms, and dashboard functionality. Familiarity with data storage and warehousing will be beneficial in enhancing data infrastructure and supporting these improvements.
Stakeholder Engagement and Requirements Gathering Working in partnership with stakeholders, you will scope out data requirements and design intuitive dashboards to address growing demands. Effective scoping, planning, and prioritisation against available resources are crucial to meeting organisational objectives.
Governance and Compliance Maintaining robust governance processes and documentation is essential. You will ensure strict adherence to GDPR and security guidelines, safeguarding data integrity and confidentiality at every stage of the reporting process.
Collaboration Across PAI Collaboration with other areas of expertise within the People Analytics and Insight (PAI) directorate is a key element of the role. Working closely with colleagues ensures knowledge sharing and the delivery of integrated solutions.
Deputising Responsibilities On occasion, you will be required to deputise for a Senior Manager, taking on additional responsibilities and supporting leadership within the team as needed., We'll assess you against these behaviours during the selection process:

- You will be asked to prepare and deliver a presentation (15 min plus 5 min for Q&A). You will be sent a dataset prior to interview, and you will be asked to develop a small dashboard within PowerBI that you will then present to the panel., We want to make sure no one is put at a disadvantage during our recruitment process. Requirements
Do you have experience in SQL?, Technical and Analytical Skills Demonstrated experience in handling and analysing large datasets, employing a variety of formulae and data visualisation techniques. Proficient in manipulating data using Power BI and Power Query, complemented by a high level of technical expertise in Microsoft Excel.
Possesses a solid understanding of the broader Power Platform ecosystem, including PowerApps and PowerAutomate, or alternatively, holds knowledge of other programming languages such as R or SQL.
Reporting and Data Presentation Skilled at building and delivering reports that are tailored to customer needs, ensuring that all outputs are aligned with GDPR principles. Capable of championing the strategic use of data and applying data storytelling methods to facilitate effective decision-making across HMRC.
Communication and Collaboration Exhibits excellent communication and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to convey complex technical and data-driven concepts clearly and succinctly to diverse audiences.
Adept at planning and prioritising workloads, effectively managing expectations with both internal and external stakeholders.
Experienced in working both collaboratively and proactively within multidisciplinary teams, with a proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while continually learning and developing new skills.
Desirable Criteria
Accessibility Testing Experience in accessibility testing is valued, supporting HMRCs commitment to making digital products accessible to all users.
HR and People Data Direct experience with HR or people data is advantageous, demonstrating understanding in handling sensitive workforce information.
Data Warehousing Skills in developing and maintaining data warehousing systems are desirable for effective data storage and analytics.
Data Modelling Experience designing data flows, relationships, star schemas, and dimension tables is highly beneficial for optimising data structure and analysis.
