Job description

The Faculty of Arts & Humanities is seeking a friendly, considerate and engaging focus group facilitator to assist with a project exploring how the faculty can increase students' connection to the university outside of term time.

The Student Focus Group Facilitator will lead five 1-hour focus groups with support from a member of the Student Experience team. They will seek to include all focus group attendees in the conversation and encourage them to provide their views and opinions, steering and guiding the discussion and asking follow-up questions where needed.

Training will be provided via a 1.5-hour session, and the successful candidate will be paid for this time. The focus groups will be held in person on the Strand campus, please only apply if you will be able to attend sessions in person. Please note this position is only open to current students in the Faculty of Arts & Humanities.

We may close this advert early if we get a large amount of applications., The Global Engagement team, based in the International, Engagement & Service (IES) Directorate, is recruiting for a temporary Evaluation & Impact Officer. Global Engagement works with all nine Faculties to support the development of education and research partnerships across the globe.

To support our academic and Professional Services colleagues in developing new initiatives or to enhance existing collaborations with international partners, Global Engagement organises several internal seed funding calls each year, including the Partnership Fund and other joint funding schemes with international partners. These funding schemes support the development of new initiatives with international partners in education and research, with the goal of providing a foundation to support longer-term and larger-scale international collaborations which will deliver impact for King?s.

We are looking for a Master?s or PhD student who has experience in working with qualitative and quantitative data to conduct an evaluation of the outcomes of our internal seed funding calls and prepare an impact report summarising the findings of the evaluation, which will be shared among senior leadership in the IES Directorate and other teams.

To deliver this work, the postholder will review completed activity reports (each report is typically less than 2 pages) from seed fund awardees and, where appropriate, may be required to liaise further with awardees where additional clarity regarding follow-on activities and outcomes is needed. They will extract a set of agreed outcomes from the activity reports and will be expected to identify trends and patterns from the data, which will be used to prepare the impact report.

The postholder will report to the Senior Partnerships Manager (Strategic Programmes) in Global Engagement. We are looking for someone to start as soon as possible, with the project to complete by the end of May. We anticipate that this project will take up to 70 hours to complete and there is flexibility in the number of hours per week to be worked depending on the postholder?s availability, which can be discussed at interview stage. For any queries regarding the role, please contact emma.c.bishop@kcl.ac.uk., We are looking for a research assistant to support us for a short time with a number of projects in the Policy Institute's Evidence Development and Incubation Team (EDIT). The research assistant will work across a number of EDIT projects, supporting the team to co-ordinate the projects, and carrying out aspects of the qualitative and/or quantitative research. The research assistant is likely to work on projects and evaluations that are focused on topics such as supporting those experiencing homelessness; education projects conducted in colleges or schools; providing employment support for those leaving care; and improving adult numeracy and financial literacy. Administrative activities will include tasks such as monitoring inboxes, proofreading documents, supporting contact with research participants and gatekeepers, scheduling qualitative interviews, arranging transcription, and maintaining folders and fieldwork logs. The research assistant's work on qualitative research is likely to include data management in NVivo, conducting qualitative interviews, carrying out qualitative analysis if appropriate, and supporting with report drafting, including literature reviews. The research assistant's work on quantitative research is likely to include carrying out data management and data cleaning tasks in R, and creating descriptive statistics and graphs.

Requirements

Undergraduate or MA degrees (or currently completing) in relevant field (e.g. social sciences) or direct experience conducting qualitative research., Essential:

  • Training in qualitative and/or quantitative research approaches
  • Experience conducting semi-structured qualitative interviews
  • Experience and/or interest in policy research/social research
  • Experience working as part of a team or in a co-ordination role
  • Experience in conducting administrative tasks

Desirable:

  • Experience working on research projects as part of a team.
  • Experience in carrying out qualitative data management in NVivo
  • Experience conducting qualitative analysis
  • Experiencing with drafting policy or research reports
  • Experience with impact evaluation or statistics
  • Experience conducting analysis in R, Applicants must be current students in the Faculty of Arts & Humanities., Experience/Skills:
