Job description

As a Senior Quantum Algorithm Developer - Primitives you will design, implement, and optimize analog quantum algorithms running directly on Pasqal's neutral-atom hardware. Your primary focus will be on state preparation protocols, analog control strategies for efficient characterization, benchmarking, and algorithmic applications.

As part of your role, you will also lead diverse research efforts that explore the boundaries of quantum advantage, investigate computational hardness and resource tradeoffs, and prototype new algorithms that could run on Pasqal's hardware. You will collaborate closely with hardware and software teams to guide the co-design of algorithms and architectures you are also expected to help shaping the roadmap for algorithmic utility on neutral-atom systems.

Your missions and responsibilities will include:

  • Design and optimize analog state preparation protocols, including adiabatic, variational, counter-diabatic, and optimal-control approaches.

  • Conduct original research in quantum algorithms, quantum algorithm complexity, and quantum information theory.

  • Design and benchmark algorithmic primitives aligned with neutral-atom capabilities.

  • Collaborate with application teams to optimize performance under realistic architectural constraints.

  • Contribute to the software stack, including prototyping, maintaining, and improving libraries.

  • Document and publish results internally and externally, contributing to the company's scientific visibility.

  • Keeping a regular technological watch.

  • Having an inventive activity in the scientific and technical fields related to the Company's research, products, technologies and markets; filing patents.

Requirements

Do you have experience in SciPy?, Do you have a Doctoral degree?, * PhD in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related discipline with specialization in quantum computing.

  • 2-3+ Postdoctoral or industrial experience in quantum computing, especially in algorithm design.

  • Solid background in quantum mechanics and many-body physics or neutral atoms.

  • Familiarity with core numerical techniques (tensor networks, exact diagonalization).

  • Good programming skills in Python for scientific computing and algorithm development (NumPy/SciPy and JAX, PyTorch, or similar).

  • Strong communication skills.

Nice-to-have requirements

  • Strong software engineering skills.

  • Familiarity with neutral atoms and AMO physics.

  • Demonstrated experience with optimal control, annealing, counter-diabatic methods, reinforcement learning or measurement protocols (randomized measurements/shadows).

  • Experience running experiments on real quantum hardware.

  • Experience with software engineering best practices, including Git-based workflows, code reviews, testing, and documentation.

  • Experience working in Linux and HPC environments, including job schedulers (Slurm) and large-scale simulations.

  • French language (the working environment is bilingual, but English is sufficient for daily work).

About the company

About Pasqal PASQAL designs and develops Quantum Processing Units (QPUs) and associated software tools. Our innovative technology enables us to address use cases that are currently beyond the reach of the most powerful supercomputers; these cases can concern industrial application challenges as well as fundamental science needs. In addition to the exceptional computing power they provide, QPUs are highly energy efficient and will contribute to a significant reduction in the carbon footprint of the HPC industry.
