Job description

We're hiring a hands-on WordPress Platform Specialist to own and run our multi-site WordPress estate (12+ sites). Our sites are hosted on Enscale, a managed PaaS hosting platform (production + staging environments, scaling, and restore points). You will own the platform and lead a structured handover from our agency, including documentation, access, and operational runbooks.

This role is focused on uptime, security, performance, safe updates, and reliable releases. You'll also spin up new sites from a proven blueprint using Elementor and ACF.

What you'll do

Platform operations (Enscale)

  • Operate production and staging environments day to day
  • Manage environment settings (e.g., PHP versions/settings where exposed), SSL, scheduled tasks (cron), scaling, and restore processes
  • Maintain a consistent, repeatable site blueprint and operational runbook across all sites
  • Own backups/restores, including routine restore testing and rollback plans

Cloudflare

  • Manage DNS, SSL/TLS settings, CDN caching rules, WAF configuration, and traffic controls (bot management and rate limiting where available)
  • Create per-site rulesets, review analytics, and tune for performance and security

Safe updates (no Git initially)

  • Run WordPress core/theme/plugin updates in staging first
  • Take pre-change backups/snapshots and follow a clear change plan
  • Verify functionality and performance, then promote to production
  • Maintain a clear change log and evidence of testing; use WP-CLI and trusted staging/backup tooling as needed

Performance

  • Improve Core Web Vitals with a joined-up caching strategy across Cloudflare and the application layer
  • Set image/CDN policies, reduce asset bloat, and prevent regressions after releases
  • Track template-level performance and introduce lightweight release checks

Security and technical compliance

  • Implement hardening, least-privilege access, 2FA, vulnerability patching, and audit trails
  • Ensure reliable, tested restores and secure operational practices
  • Support GDPR and WCAG 2.1 AA baselines through technical controls (templates, consent and tracking configuration, accessibility hygiene)

Monitoring and incident response

  • Set up uptime monitoring and synthetic checks, alerting, and runbooks
  • Own incident response, post-incident reviews, and improvement actions

Elementor + ACF support

  • Maintain Elementor templates, global styles, and the component system
  • Maintain reusable ACF field groups (and ACF JSON workflows where applicable)
  • Support tracking and analytics through Google Tag Manager and GA4, including Consent Mode
  • Build occasional pages using established patterns (not a heavy content role)

New site spin-ups

  • Clone from the blueprint (theme, plugins, Elementor kit, ACF setup), wire DNS/SSL in Cloudflare, deploy via Enscale, and complete a hardening checklist
  • Evaluate WordPress Multisite vs single-site clones when useful, and document decisions

Requirements

Do you have experience in WordPress?, * Proven experience running multiple production WordPress sites (corporate or agency)

  • Strong hands-on experience with Cloudflare (DNS, caching/CDN behaviour, WAF)
  • Experience with managed hosting/PaaS environments and staging-to-production releases (Enscale experience is a plus)
  • Ability to read PHP/WordPress code and run basic MySQL queries for troubleshooting
  • Confidence using WP-CLI and basic Linux/CLI tasks (or willingness to learn quickly)
  • Strong security and update hygiene, clear documentation, and calm incident handling

Nice to have

  • Experience implementing restore testing, backup policies, and operational checklists
  • Elementor performance tuning and practical Core Web Vitals improvements
  • Familiarity with ACF workflows and structured content modelling
  • Basic CI/CD literacy (we plan to introduce Git and more automated releases over time)

Benefits & conditions

  • Competitive base salary with contributory pension scheme
  • Life assurance
  • 33 days of annual leave including bank holidays
  • Personal development plan that incorporates appropriate training to help advance your career.
  • Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Employee referral programme

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent, Graduate

Pay: From £30,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Company pension
  • Health & wellbeing programme
  • Life insurance
  • On-site parking
  • Referral programme
  • Sick pay

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • London SE7 7TZ: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Work authorisation:

  • United Kingdom (required)
