Job description
As a Graduate Design Engineer, you will support the design and delivery of bespoke steel moulds used in precast concrete manufacturing. The role is heavily CAD-focused, with extensive use of SolidWorks, and involves close collaboration with our production and fabrication teams.
You will be involved in the full design process, from initial customer drawings through to production support on the factory floor. Training and mentoring will be provided, with responsibility increasing as your skills and confidence develop., * Reviewing customer drawings of precast concrete products.
- Creating accurate SolidWorks models of concrete products.
- Designing complete steel mould assemblies around the concrete product, primarily using sheet metal and weldment features.
- Preparing designs for production, including export to our nesting and MRP software.
- Producing full drawing packs and Bills of Materials for manufacture.
- Clearly communicating design intent to production teams, covering folding, machining, fabrication, and assembly.
- Assisting with planning of mould assemblies and sub-assemblies.
- Supporting jobs through production and providing technical assistance during fabrication and assembly.
- Gradually taking ownership of projects from concept through to completion.
Design environment
Moulds vary in size and complexity and can take anywhere from one week to several months to manufacture. The design process is critical to ensuring efficient production, high build quality, and ease of use for the end customer. Designs must be completed within agreed timeframes while maintaining a high standard of practicality and buildability.
Requirements
Do you have experience in SolidWorks?, * Degree qualified (or soon to be) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Familiar with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
- An interest in manufacturing-led design and practical engineering solutions.
- Willing to engage with production teams and learn from the factory environment.
- Good communication skills and a collaborative approach.
- Organised, detail-focused, and keen to develop professionally.
Previous industry experience is beneficial but not essential; training and support will be provided.
