Job description
We are seeking an experienced Data Architect to support a Central Government department on a major data and analytics programme. This role suits someone with deep data modelling expertise and a strong background designing scalable, well-governed data platforms within complex or regulated environments.The RoleYou will play a pivotal role in defining and shaping enterprise data architecture, ensuring data solutions are robust, scalable, and aligned with both business and regulatory requirements. You'll work closely with delivery teams, architects, and senior stakeholders to drive best practice across data platforms.Key Responsibilities Include:Designing and owning conceptual, logical, and physical data modelsDefining and evolving data warehouse and data lake architecturesProviding architectural leadership across relational and NoSQL databasesAdvising on data integration patterns, including ETL/ELT and streaming architecturesSupporting cloud-based data platforms across AWS, Azure, and/or
Requirements
GCPEmbedding data governance, metadata management, and master data principlesTranslating business requirements into clear, scalable data designsEnsuring architectures meet security, compliance, and government standardsAbout YouEssential Experience:Proven experience as a Data Architect, Senior Data Engineer, or Data ModellerStrong expertise in data modelling (conceptual, logical, and physical)Demonstrable experience designing data warehouses and data lake architecturesAdvanced SQL skills and strong understanding of relational and NoSQL databasesExperience with cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, and/or GCP)Knowledge of ETL/ELT, data integration, and streaming architecturesSolid understanding of data governance, metadata, and master data managementExcellent communication skills, able to engage technical and non-technical stakeholdersNice to Have:Experience with modern analytics and BI platformsKnowledge of big data technologies (e.g. Spark, Hadoop)Experience with real-time or event-driven architecturesFamiliarity with data cataloguing and lineage toolsExperience working in regulated or data-sensitive environmentsRelevant certifications (e.g. TOGAF, cloud data certifications)
