BI Developer

The BI Developer role support the delivery of high-quality dashboards, reports, and self-service analytics that enable data-driven decision making across the organisation. Reporting to the Lead BI Developer, the role focuses on translating business requirements into clear, intuitive visualisation, UX, and storytelling principles.

The BI Developer collaborates closely with the Engineers, Analysts and Business Stakeholders to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and usability, supports the automation of manual reporting, and enables self-service analytics adoption. The role requires a blend of technical skills, analytical thinking, business understanding and effective communication, with an emphasis on continuous learning, documentation and adherence to quality standards while progressively increasing ownership and impact as experience grows.

We offer hybrid working. This role can be based in either our London, Sunderland or Thurmaston office, with a minimum of three days per week on-site. The remaining time can be spent working wherever you can best deliver for your customers, while still maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Direct responsibilities:

BI Development & Delivery

• Design, develop, and maintain dashboards, reports, and self-service analytics solutions in line with established BI standards, using BI tools such as QuickSight, Power BI or Tableau.

• Translate business requirements into clear, intuitive data visualisations that deliver actionable insights.

• Automate recurring and manual reporting processes, reducing reliance on spreadsheets and ad-hoc reporting.

• Apply best practices in data visualisation, UX design, accessibility, and storytelling.

• Work closely with the BI engineering team to understand data models, KPI definitions, and data pipelines.

• Validate data accuracy, perform testing, and assist with performance optimisation of BI solutions.

• Document dashboards, metrics, and usage guidance to support both technical and non-technical users.

• Continuously explore new BI principles and tools with Lead BI Developer to push the boundaries of analytics.

• Ensure BI products comply with governance and security principles.

Stakeholder Engagement & Enablement

• Engage with business stakeholders to clarify requirements and understand underlying business needs.

• Support and train business users to enable effective self-service analytics and increase BI adoption.

• Provide ongoing support for BI products and respond to enhancement requests within agreed priorities.

• Act as an embedded BI partner within assigned business areas, with level of autonomy increasing with experience.

Team Contribution & Development

• Work under the guidance of the Lead BI Developer while progressively increasing ownership of BI solutions.

• Participate in peer reviews, knowledge sharing, and team learning initiatives.

• Develop understanding of BI solutions end-to-end, from data source to dashboard, to enhance context and decision-making.

Do you have experience in Usability?, * Hands-on experience with BI tools (Quicksight preferred; Power BI exposure beneficial).

• Strong understanding of dashboard and reporting development principles.

• Knowledge of data visualisation best practices, including chart selection, visual hierarchy, and usability.

• Working knowledge of SQL to query data for reporting and analysis.

• Experience or growing capability in self-service BI enablement.

• Ability to communicate insights clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Strong attention to detail, curiosity, and a continuous improvement mindset.

• Experience working in a collaborative BI or data team environment.

• Exposure to or interest in Python, HTML, CSS, or JavaScript to support analytics, automation, or dashboard customisation.
