Job description
The Data Governance Specialist is responsible for ensuring that data assets are managed effectively and in compliance with internal and external requirements. This role focuses on developing and maintaining data governance policies, supporting J-SOX audit processes in collaboration with the Internal Audit team, and providing operational support for data governance activities across the business.
- Policy Development & Maintenance
- Create, review, and update data governance policies, standards, and procedures.
- Ensure alignment with regulatory requirements, internal controls, and industry best practices.
- Audit & Compliance Support
- Translate compliance requirements into an audit framework for the data platform
- Act as a liaison between the Data Governance team and Internal Audit for compliance.
- Prepare documentation and evidence for audits, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
- Monitor compliance with data governance policies and elevate issues as needed.
- Operational Data Governance Support
- Provide guidance and support to business units on data governance processes.
- Assist in data quality initiatives, metadata management, and stewardship activities.
- Maintain data governance tools and repositories, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information.
- Provide training on data literacy topics for data stakeholders.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with internal teams to promote data governance awareness.
- Support training and communication initiatives related to data governance policies and compliance., As a Data Governance Steward you will be part of the central Data Governance team, which is part of the Central Data & Analytics Organization that reports to the CIO.
The Central Data & Analytics department provides Data Analytics products and services (incl. Governance) to the entire Vanderlande Organization (mainly internal customers). It is a federated organization, meaning that we centrally set a standard, which is adopted and implemented by decentralized franchises within the business.
The core product we work on is the Vanderlande Data Platform, on which we provide Data Products for our customers to leverage. By transforming, processing, combining and enriching data available in source systems we provide a valuable source of truth. To enable our customers to Analyse and Visualise the provided data, we maintain the Vanderlande Qlik Servers and Power BI capacity, while facilitating templates, a clear way of working and a community of experts. We excel in and foster knowledge on the application of advanced analytics techniques and the underlying technology.
The Central Data & Analytics department functions as a scaled Agile organization with different development teams working off the same backlog, working to realize a shared roadmap. However, by focusing on certain parts of the Vanderlande business we can effectively leverage business knowledge. We work in close cooperation with other ICT & Technology departments.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Information Management, Business, or related field.
- Proven experience in data governance, compliance, or audit-related roles.
- Familiarity with J-SOX or similar internal control frameworks.
- Experience with PowerBI and Databricks is a pre.
- Programming experience is a pre.
- ITIL knowledge is a pre.
- Communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational abilities.
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- High integrity and commitment to compliance.
- Ability to maintain a company-wide perspective (strategic, eagle-eye view)

This position offers a competitive salary range of € 4747 to € 6443 gross per month (excluding 8% holiday allowance). Through exceeding performance expectations, you even have the possibility to grow outside this scale.
