Job description
This role sits within PayPal's Developer Relations (DevRel) team and focuses on improving the experience of external developers building on PayPal platforms. The Developer Advocate partners closely with engineering, product, and documentation teams to represent the voice of the developer, identify friction points, and influence improvements across APIs, SDKs, and developer tooling.
The role emphasizes the creation and delivery of high-quality technical content - including blogs, demos, tutorials, videos, and live presentations - to help developers onboard quickly and build confidently. Acting as a trusted technical resource, the Developer Advocate engages directly with the developer community through conferences, events, webinars, and online channels, while also synthesizing developer feedback into actionable insights for internal teams.
This is an individual contributor role with a strong external-facing and cross-functional collaboration focus., * Uses data to build insights on product or platform requirements consistent with the shared vision for the product.
- Gathers insights from the customer experience and customer needs to input to product requirements
- Analyzes research, market analysis and usability studies, research and market analysis to support data-driven decision making
- Monitors product profitability measures, including budget.
- Lead sprint planning, daily standups and retrospectives to drive execution. Interfaces with product and technology leadership as needed.
- Partners with content developers, data scientists, product designers and user experience researchers to identify new opportunities., * Serve as an advocate for developers by influencing improvements to APIs, SDKs, documentation, and developer workflows
- Create and maintain technical content such as blogs, tutorials, demos, and sample applications
- Represent PayPal at developer conferences, hackathons, meetups, and virtual events
- Partner with engineering, product, and UX teams to relay developer feedback and improve developer experience
- Build tooling, demos, or automation to support developer onboarding and education, For the majority of employees, PayPal's balanced hybrid work model offers 3 days in the office for effective in-person collaboration and 2 days at your choice of either the PayPal office or your home workspace, ensuring that you equally have the benefits and conveniences of both locations.
Requirements
Do you have experience in SDKs?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, * 3+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience., * 3+ years of experience with web, frontend, or commerce technologies, including APIs and SDKs
- Experience using developer-focused AI tools (e.g., Copilot, Replit)
- Familiarity with open-source frameworks and modern developer ecosystems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly
- Passion for teaching, mentoring, and engaging with developer communities
- Creative approach to technical storytelling and education
