Job description

As a Data Architect Specialist within Research & Development, you'll design and implement the data infrastructure that enables our scientists to push the boundaries of drug discovery and development. You'll be at the intersection of cutting-edge technology and life-changing science, creating scalable data solutions that support AI-driven research, clinical trials, and transformative therapies.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and implementing robust data architectures that support advanced analytics, AI/ML models, and scientific research across R&D
  • Collaborating with data scientists, researchers, and IT teams to understand data requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions
  • Designing data governance frameworks, standards, and best practices to ensure data quality, security, and compliance
  • Optimizing data pipelines and integration processes to enable seamless access to diverse data sources including human data, clinical trial data, and experimental results
  • Driving the modernization of our data landscape by evaluating and implementing new technologies, cloud platforms, and tools
  • Partnering with stakeholders across R&D to identify opportunities where improved data architecture can accelerate scientific breakthroughs
  • Providing technical leadership and guidance on data architecture principles, patterns, and emerging technologies

Your new department You will join the Data Ingestion team within the AI and Digital Innovation organisation, partnering closely with Data Science, AI & Analytics and data-producing departments across R&D. Together we scale data infrastructure and pipelines that underpin analytics, ML modelling and research.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Metadata?, Do you have a Master's degree?, We're looking for an individual who thrives in a fast-paced scientific environment where data drives discovery. To succeed in this role, you should:

  • Hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related technical field

  • Have 3+ years of experience in data architecture, data modelling, or related roles with additional experience in hands-on cloud or software engineering. Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, healthcare, or other regulated environments is considered an advantage

  • Demonstrate proficiency in designing and implementing scalable data solutions, including hands-on work with cloud platforms and big data technologies

  • Strong knowledge of data integration tools, ETL/ELT processes, and API development

  • Be familiar with AI/ML workflows and the data infrastructure required to support advanced analytics

  • Strong understanding of data governance, metadata management, and regulatory frameworks (e.g., GxP, GDPR)

  • Strong capabilities in explaining complex systems to non-technical stakeholders, expertise in creating architectural diagrams appropriate to the audience
