Backend Developer

We're looking for a Backend Developer, with minimum 3 years of experience, to join our creative team in Amsterdam. We're an award-winning digital agency and Europe's leading Shopify Platinum Partner. We focus on strategy, design and development in the e-commerce industry, with a client base of international fashion, lifestyle and beauty brands., As a Backend Developer at Ask Phill, you will design, build, and maintain complex integrations for enterprise clients using Shopify Plus. You'll create efficient backend solutions and APIs using Node.js, connecting Shopify with enterprise systems like ERPs, PIMs, and OMSs to ensure seamless data flow across platforms. Working autonomously, you will take ownership of backend projects from technical design to deployment. You'll make architectural decisions independently, write clean and testable code, collaborate with frontend developers, and engage directly with enterprise clients when needed. As you grow in this role, you will evolve from technical execution toward strategic solution architecture, thinking holistically about client business challenges and end to end system design. Do you have experience in TypeScript?, Node.js, TypeScript, Express.js, REST APIs, GraphQL, Docker, CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI), MongoDB, PostgreSQL, AWS/GCP, Shopify Plus APIs, Shopify Flow, Claude and other AI coding assistants Job requirements

Minimum 3 years of backend development experience, with strong focus on Node.js

Proficiency in API development (REST, GraphQL), databases (SQL and NoSQL), and data handling

Experience using AI tools (Claude, Cursor, Copilot) to enhance workflow

Experience with Shopify Flow and e-commerce automation

Interest in understanding client business challenges alongside technical solutions

Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and deployment practices

Strong communication skills with fluency in English

Comfortable working independently and in fast paced, client focused settings Additional useful experience

Experience with Shopify Plus or enterprise e commerce platforms

Digital agency or project based environment

Enterprise systems (PIMs, ERPs, OMSs)

Salary range: € 50.000 - € 68.000 gross a year (depending on level of expertise).
