Job description
As a Senior Data Engineer, you'll be a key member of our Data Engineering Team within the AI & Data Centre of Excellence. Your work will directly support defence, aerospace and engineering programmes that play a vital role in national security and public safety.
Day-to-day, you'll shape our data landscape, influence long-term digital transformation, and grow your technical and leadership skills while supporting projects that make a real difference.
- Lead the design and development of ETL/ELT solutions across the full software development life cycle.
- Collaborate with data engineers, developers, analysts, testers and project teams to deliver high-quality data products.
- Establish data modelling standards and contribute to best-practice development across the organisation.
- Support platform administration and help advance modern cloud technologies, including Azure, Microsoft Fabric and Databricks.
- Mentor and guide colleagues, driving continuous improvement in engineering delivery and AI-ready data capabilities.
This role is full time, 37.5 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with days onsite and days working from home.
Requirements
- Extensive experience with the Microsoft SQL Server BI stack (SSIS, SSAS) or equivalent ETL/ELT platforms, plus Python.
- Proven ability to analyse and resolve reporting and data pipeline performance issues.
- Strong experience gathering and documenting high-quality business requirements and engaging stakeholders.
- Expertise in database design, data warehousing, ODS/DataMart's, OLAP concepts and dimensional modelling.
- Strong capability in cloud data engineering or readiness to lead cloud adoption using Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Microsoft Fabric or Azure Data Lake Storage., We value difference and don't have a fixed idea when it comes to background or education, provided you can show the required level of experience and/or willingness to learn then we would like to hear from you., The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) / Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
