Job description
As tombola continues to grow, so does our Platform team. We are now looking for a Senior Platform Developer to join us, building the platforms that underpin how we support and interact with our players every single day.
This role sits right at the heart of player experience. You will help build and evolve the technology behind live chat and voice based customer support, enabling our Advisors to deliver safe, seamless and genuinely great experiences for our players.
You will be joining a collaborative engineering environment, working with AWS and a modern .NET stack, while helping guide the team as we continue to move away from legacy technology.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys coaching and mentoring others, working collaboratively across teams, and partnering with senior stakeholders to help shape technical direction in a space that really matters.
We work in a hybrid way at tombola. This role is based three days a week in our Sunderland office, with the remaining two days working from home. Our office days are about collaborating, catching up as a team and getting the best out of working together, with home working giving you the space to focus when you need it.
What will you be doing
You will be part of a Platform team focused on Customer Experience, contributing to the technical direction and delivery of services that directly impact our players and our front line teams.
Alongside hands on development, you will play an active role in coaching and mentoring other developers, sharing knowledge, promoting best practice and helping the team continue to grow and mature.
You will work closely with Product, Customer Operations and senior stakeholders to understand needs, challenge thinking where needed, and deliver practical, scalable technical solutions.
Everything you work on helps support meaningful player interactions, so quality, reliability, accessibility and performance really matter here.
Day to day, you will
- Build and evolve platform services that support live chat and voice based customer interactions
- Work on our ongoing migration from legacy .NET MVC to modern .NET
- Design, develop and maintain scalable, secure and reliable services
- Coach and mentor other developers, supporting their growth and development
- Collaborate closely with Customer Experience teams to understand real player journeys
- Propose and shape technical standards, patterns and tooling across the team
- Work with AWS and cloud based services as part of our wider platform ecosystem
- Take ownership of technical initiatives from discovery through to delivery
- Write clear documentation to support maintainability and knowledge sharing
- Carry out code reviews and promote clean, pragmatic and well tested solutions
- Work closely with senior stakeholders, translating business needs into technical outcomes
Requirements
Do you have experience in Test automation?, We are looking for someone who is technically strong, collaborative, and comfortable supporting others while working in a stakeholder rich environment where your work has visible impact.
You will bring
- Strong experience with .NET Framework MVC and modern .NET
- Strong experience using infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform
- Experience building scalable and reliable web based systems
- A pragmatic mindset and the ability to balance quality with delivery
- Experience working with legacy systems and modernising them over time
- Confidence estimating complex work and breaking it into deliverable pieces
- Experience with automated testing and quality focused development
- Solid Git knowledge including release branches and tagging
- A genuine interest in coaching, mentoring and supporting other engineers
It would be great, but not essential, if you also have
- Experience working with AWS or cloud native technologies
- Exposure to regulated or customer critical environments
- Experience with CI CD pipelines and modern delivery practices
