Job description

As a Senior Database Administrator, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining our mission-critical database systems, particularly Amazon Aurora MySQL and PostgreSQL. You'll play a crucial role in ensuring the availability, performance, and security of our database infrastructure while supporting a platform that processes billions in bookings for properties worldwide.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Administer Aurora MySQL and PostgreSQL environments, including managing database instances, clusters, and replicas at scale
  • Perform database versioning upgrades, query optimizations, and implement data retention strategies to ensure scalability
  • Manage database migration tools including AWS DMS, Kinesis, and implement Change Data Capture (CDC) solutions with Kafka
  • Execute database schema changes using tools such as Percona, Liquibase, Doctrine, or Alembic while following established processes and ensuring zero downtime changes
  • Monitor database performance, proactively identify bottlenecks, and optimize queries and indexing for improved efficiency
  • Implement security policies, access controls, and ensure compliance with industry regulations (GDPR, HIPAA)

Requirements

  • 5+ years of proven experience as a Database Administrator with strong focus on Amazon Aurora MySQL
  • Deep expertise in both MySQL and PostgreSQL database administration
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, query optimization, and performance tuning
  • Experience with database migration tools (AWS DMS) and Change Data Capture (CDC) technologies
  • Knowledge of database schema change management tools and processes
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms, particularly AWS
  • Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills with ability to follow established processes
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities in remote team environments
  • Willingness to participate in on-call rotation for database support

Bonus Skills to Stand Out:

  • AWS Certified Database - Specialty or similar database/cloud certifications
  • Global database experience across multiple regions
  • MySQL proxy experience
  • Experience with Debezium or similar CDC tools
