Job description
In this role, you will play a central part in shaping the architecture and technical direction of our marine electronics ecosystem. You'll work closely with Product Management to turn new concepts and customer-driven features into clear, actionable specifications that guide development from the very start.
A key part of your impact will be your ability to communicate complex technical ideas with clarity, confidence, and influence. You'll translate constraints, trade-offs, design decisions, and possibilities for a wide range of stakeholders-ensuring alignment, enabling good decisions, and keeping cross-functional teams moving together in the right direction.
You'll evaluate emerging technologies, monitor competitive trends, and identify both risks and opportunities that inform long-term system development. Your insight will help ensure our products remain innovative, robust, and compliant with evolving standards.
Working as part of a team of discipline-specific architects, you'll combine strong systems thinking with exceptional communication to shape reliable, future-ready solutions that delight our customers and support our strategic roadmap.

- Work with the Product Management team, to understand new features and solutions in the pipeline.
- Decompose required functionality across products. Identify, specify and control product interfaces and interactions.
- Identify project dependencies, work with project managers to ensure coordinated, timely introduction of features across multiple product development streams.
- Create product specifications ensuring essential features, standards and compliance requirements are captured at the outset of projects.
- Communicate technical reasoning, constraints and decisions clearly across teams to ensure shared understanding and alignment.
- Assist teams to create comprehensive test plans.
- Represent and promote the long-term goals of system development.
- Recognise and promote design re-use.
- Track emerging technologies, innovations, and obsolescence.
- Competitor awareness - understand who the key competitors and emerging threats are. Assess the technical strengths and pitfalls of the products and feature sets they offer.
- Maintain a shared architectural roadmap within a group of other systems and product architects.
Requirements
We are looking for individuals who thrive on making an impact and want the excitement of being on a team that wins., * A degree level qualification in Software, Electronic or Systems Engineering or related discipline.
- Significant experience as a Systems Architect (or similar technical leadership role) working across network systems, software solutions and embedded hardware products.
- Strong, practical knowledge in several of the following areas:
- Communications networks, especially CAN, Ethernet, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
- System design methodologies.
- Hardware and software design principles.
- Exceptional technical communication skills.
- A solid grasp on modern requirement management and definition principles.
- Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional engineering teams and to build alignment across multiple disciplines.
- Familiarity with sailing and or power boating (advantageous but not essential).
- A willingness to travel occasionally within the UK and internationally when required.
