Job description
As a not-for-profit, purpose-driven organisation, funded by the market, we are committed to supporting the transition to Net Zero. We are currently implementing faster, more accurate settlement, including new systems enabling half-hourly settlement from September 2025. This transformation places strong data governance, protection and security at the centre of our work.
About the team
The Data & Analytics team delivers Elexon's data management, governance and analytics capabilities. The team leads Elexon's data strategy, ensuring robust data standards, security and compliance, and is responsible for key data platforms including DIP, DAH and DAP, enabling secure data sharing with industry stakeholders.
The role
As a Data Steward, you'll play a key role in embedding industry best-practice data governance across Elexon. You'll be the first point of contact for data-related queries, working closely with Data Owners and stakeholders across Technology, InfoSec, Legal and Compliance to ensure data integrity, quality and trust.
Reporting to the Data Governance Lead, you'll support the establishment of data ownership, oversee access to systems supporting half-hourly settlement, monitor MPAN data usage, and proactively identify risks or policy breaches.
What you'll do
Data governance
- Implement data ownership and accountability across Elexon
- Develop and maintain data governance policies, standards and quality rules
- Define data lifecycle processes from creation to disposal
- Enforce data standards using available technology and best practices
Access management
- Work with business and InfoSec teams to manage data access requirements
- Maintain role-based access controls and monitor access to key systems
- Audit data access and usage to ensure policy and regulatory compliance
Data quality & reporting
- Identify, investigate and remediate data quality issues
- Develop and track data quality and governance KPIs
- Conduct data profiling and quality assessments
Metadata & data catalogue (Purview)
- Curate and maintain metadata within the Purview data catalogue
- Support onboarding of data sources and configuration of permissions
- Define and configure data product structures, templates and classifications
Data literacy & compliance
- Design and deliver data governance and literacy training
- Support data protection and privacy initiatives, including GDPR awareness
Requirements
Do you have experience in Communication skills?, * Previous experience in a data-focused role
- Strong understanding of data governance, ownership models and data quality
- Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail
- Experience documenting data processes, lineage and standards
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Experience with data profiling, cleansing and validation techniques
- Exposure to data cataloguing tools
Desirable
- Knowledge of Ofgem or energy-sector data governance
- Familiarity with standards such as Dublin Core
- Experience working with data engineers and architects
- Awareness of data protection and access management models
- Understanding of data products and data domains
