Job description

We are introducing a number of Senior Product Engineers to allow us to meet increased expectations on product engineering as we continue our organisational transformation to become a product led organisation (project to product)., ou will provide a high level of technical expertise and leadership within your squad supporting the Tech Lead Manager. We are specifically looking for people who have the following characteristics:

  • Problem solver: You will be taking on the most challenging engineering problems facing your squad, and in some cases this will involve driving a team of engineers towards delivering a successful outcome. We are looking for people who focus on solving problems pragmatically while adding value to the product, rather than focussing on specific languages or toolsets.
  • Data-driven and impact-focussed: You will always have our customers/users in mind, and ensure that any features or changes you build can be either quantitatively or qualitatively proven to have a positive impact. You will also regularly review all the data you have available to identify and suggest potential improvements.
  • Collaborative by default: You will be working within a multi-disciplinary squad focussed on a specific domain with specific outcomes, and it is key for you to work together to achieve those outcomes.
  • Curious and Proactive: You will never be happy with the status-quo, so will constantly be looking for ways to improve the product, whether that is through technology or by changing internal processes and practices
  • Our key technologies are: TypeScript (Node and React/React native) and AWS.

What kind of work might I do?

  • You will be working with your squad to identify new features and changes that will have a positive impact on our organisational OKRs, providing technical feasibility on those ideas, developing tests and spikes to validate the ideas and finally bringing those ideas into reality.
  • You will be working closely with your squad, external stakeholders and even users to understand their requirements in more detail
  • You will be leading the technical implementation of the most complex projects in the squad through to completion, including writing tickets and directing other engineers towards its final goal
  • You will be working closely with other engineers in your squad and so will be responsible for helping them grow, including through feedback from PRs, pair programming and identifying opportunities for mentoring.
  • We are currently transitioning towards a "You build it, you run it" model, so you will have experience of this culture and can help support your team towards that goal

How might I progress my career?

At this level you will initially start on the technical leadership track, where you can take on increasingly hard problems with increasing span of ownership and influence and working towards a Staff Engineer role, but there will also be opportunities to shift onto the engineering management track, taking on line management responsibilities and working towards becoming an Engineering Manager with a progression route to Head/Director level roles.

Interview Process

  • Meet one of our Engineering Managers via MS Teams (approximately 30 minutes) - Opportunity for you to learn more about the role, answer any questions you have, and provide some examples of providing technical direction across multiple teams and driving product outcomes through technology.
  • Technical Take home Test (To be completed in TypeScript)
  • System Design & Technical Interview via MS Teams (90 Mins)
