Data Scientist

£600pd -£700pd via Umbrella

Mostly Remote

Leading Financial Services business is looking to bring in an experienced Data Scientist to design, build, and deploy machine learning models with a strong focus on predictive and risk modelling. This role requires hands-on expertise in Python and proven experience delivering production-grade ML solutions in large-scale environments.

Role:

  • Design, build, validate, and deploy machine learning models for predictive and risk modelling use cases.
  • Develop and maintain scalable ML pipelines in Python.
  • Implement robust feature engineering, model validation, and performance monitoring frameworks.
  • Translate business requirements into advanced analytical solutions.
  • Work with large, complex datasets in structured and unstructured formats.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, actuarial teams, and engineering teams to operationalise models.
  • Ensure models are production-ready and maintainable, including documentation and version control.
  • Support model performance tracking and continuous improvement.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong commercial experience building and deploying ML models in production environments.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python (essential).
  • Experience working in large financial services or regulated environments.
  • Hands-on experience with predictive modelling techniques (eg, regression, classification, ensemble methods).
  • Experience in risk modelling (eg, pricing, credit risk, claims modelling, underwriting, or similar)
  • Experience working with large corporate or enterprise-scale datasets.
  • Strong SQL and data manipulation skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex analytical findings to non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable Experience

  • Insurance experience (pricing, underwriting, claims modelling, risk segmentation).
  • Exposure to Azure cloud services.
  • Experience with Databricks.
