Package includes: Salary from £100,000 plus a benefits package designed to support your wellbeing and reward your impact, including discretionary performance related bonus, car allowance, private healthcare, and a matched pension contribution of up to 10%. Are you a commercially astute engineering leader who thrives at the intersection of technology, people, and business strategy? Do you have the vision and credibility to lead multidisciplinary software teams, shape architectural direction, and deliver scalable, high-impact solutions across cloud, IoT, and mobile platforms? We are seeking a Head of Software Engineering to define and execute the engineering vision across a portfolio of customer-facing software and connected technology products within our AgTech division. Reporting to the Head of Ag Tech, you will lead distributed teams across the UK and Ireland, creating a high-performance engineering culture, establishing clear technical direction, and enabling predictable, value-driven delivery. What You'll Be Doing

  • Setting and delivering the software engineering strategy across IoT, cloud, mobile, and web platforms, aligned to business growth objectives.
  • Leading and developing high-performing, multidisciplinary engineering teams (embedded, front-end, mobile, data, and back-end) across multiple locations.
  • Driving architectural alignment and harmonisation between Intellync and wider business systems to create scalable, sustainable platforms.
  • Providing technical leadership across the Microsoft stack (.NET, C#, Azure), including architectural oversight, code review, and proof-of-concept development where required.
  • Embedding strong people management frameworks, including performance management, succession planning, and the development of a structured career framework (e.g. SFIA-aligned).
  • Ensuring commercially sound engineering decisions-balancing innovation, technical debt, resourcing, and ROI to maximise product sustainability and delivery velocity.
  • Overseeing the full software development lifecycle, including CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, security, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Partnering with Product, Commercial, Finance, and senior leadership teams (including board engagement) to ensure engineering capability directly supports customer outcomes and strategic priorities., This role can be based in the UK or Ireland, with remote working fully supported. As a senior leadership position, regular travel is expected to support team engagement, stakeholder relationships, and cross-functional collaboration across multiple sites. You should expect to travel approximately one week per month across the UK and Ireland, including visits to engineering teams and key business locations.

Rewarding your passion

When you join us, you'll do meaningful work and be rewarded fairly for it. From annual salary reviews and incentive bonus, ongoing career development and enhanced family, financial and wellbeing benefits - these are just some of the ways we reward you - from day one.

Requirements

  • Extensive strategic leadership experience managing engineering teams of 10+ engineers, with a strong track record of building and transforming capability.
  • Deep technical expertise across C#, .NET, and Azure (essential), with strong architectural credibility.
  • A hands-on engineering background with experience reviewing code, approving pull requests, and leading proof-of-concept work.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to balance technical excellence against business value and long-term sustainability.
  • Proven people leadership experience, including change management, performance improvement, and career pathway development.
  • Experience operating within distributed or multi-location teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience engaging at senior leadership or board level.
  • Budget ownership and forecasting experience.
