Job description
Product and Technical Collaboration
- Work closely with product and commercial teams to translate business needs into technical solutions
- Act as the technical bridge between product vision and platform capability
- Provide pragmatic input into roadmap and architecture decisions
End-to-End Development Ownership
- Lead development and evolution of customer-facing web portals hosted on WP Engine
- Deliver enhancements across the full stack, from UI to database and infrastructure
- Maintain high standards for performance, scalability and security
Platform Modernisation
- Support re-platforming into a modern cloud-native architecture
- Improve codebase structure, deployment pipelines and scalability
- Introduce and implement best practices across development and DevOps
Data and Database Management
- Optimise and maintain MS SQL Server and MySQL environments
- Improve data flows and performance across the platform
- Support integration with modern data architecture and storage solutions
DevOps and Delivery
- Maintain and enhance CI/CD pipelines using GitHub
- Support containerised workflows and automated deployments
- Work across cloud environments including AWS and Microsoft Azure, * Laravel, React and/or Python
- Postgres, Redis and Azure Cosmos DB
- Legacy integration experience (VBScript, Power Query)
- Exposure to modern data lake technologies such as Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake or Azure OneLake
- Cloud-native architecture across AWS and Azure
Requirements
- Expert-level PHP and SQL
- Strong JavaScript and TypeScript
- Advanced HTML5 and CSS3
- Strong experience with MS Azure SQL Server and MySQL
- Experience maintaining CI/CD pipelines and modern development workflows
- Familiarity with GDPR and web accessibility standards, This role suits an experienced contractor who enjoys ownership and autonomy rather than working within narrow delivery scopes.

Benefits & conditions
£450-500/day (outside IR35)
This is a hands-on, high-impact contract role where you will take ownership across the full software development lifecycle and play a key role in modernising and evolving our core web portal suite.
You will act as the bridge between product vision and technical delivery, translating business requirements into scalable solutions while helping to re-platform our existing environment into a modern, cloud-native architecture.
This role offers significant autonomy and influence. You will be a primary technical contributor with the freedom to shape architecture, tooling and development standards.
