Job description
We're seeking a technically-minded UI/UX Designer to join our team, focusing on the implementation and technical execution of digital front-end solutions. This role emphasises translating design concepts into production-ready specifications, working closely with development teams, and ensuring pixel-perfect implementation of user interfaces.
Unlike traditional product design roles, this position prioritises technical precision, design system adherence, and developer handoff quality over conceptual creative work.
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Design & Implementation
- Create production-ready UI specifications and detailed design documentation for development teams
- Build and maintain component libraries and design systems in Figma
- Produce precise redlines, measurements, and technical annotations for front-end implementation
- Define interaction states, responsive breakpoints, and technical behaviours for UI components
- Ensure consistency and technical accuracy across all digital touch points
Design System Management
- Maintain and evolve existing design systems with focus on scalability and developer efficiency
- Document component usage, variants, and technical specifications
- Create and maintain style guides covering typography, colour systems, spacing, and grid structures
- Audit existing interfaces for design system compliance and consistency
Developer Collaboration
- Work closely with front-end developers to ensure accurate implementation of designs
- Conduct QA reviews of implemented designs and provide technical feedback
- Bridge communication between design and development teams
- Create clear handoff documentation using Figma's dev mode and inspection tools
Asset Production & Optimisation
- Prepare and optimise design assets for various platforms and screen densities
- Export production-ready assets in appropriate formats (SVG, PNG, etc.)
- Create icon sets and graphical elements using Adobe Illustrator
- Ensure all assets meet technical requirements for performance and accessibility
UX Testing & Implementation Research
- Plan, create, and conduct usability testing sessions to validate design implementations
- Develop testing protocols and scenarios for evaluating implemented features
- Analyse testing data and user feedback to identify implementation issues
- Create comprehensive testing reports with actionable recommendations for improvements
- Conduct post-implementation research to measure design effectiveness and user satisfaction
- Document findings and iterate on designs based on real-world usage data
Requirements
Do you have experience in Zeplin?, * 3+ years of UI/UX design experience with strong focus on technical implementation
- Expert proficiency in Figma, including auto-layout, components, and variables
- Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (particularly Illustrator and Photoshop)
- Deep understanding of responsive design principles and grid systems
- Solid grasp of HTML/CSS capabilities and constraints (coding ability not required)\
- Experience creating and maintaining design systems at scale
- Ability to conduct user research, analyse data, and translate findings into design solutions
- Proven ability to plan and conduct usability testing and create actionable testing reports
- Experience with implementation research and post-launch validation methods
- Meticulous attention to detail and pixel-perfect execution
- Strong documentation and specification skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with developers and other team members
Desirable
- Experience with design tokens and design-to-code workflows
- Familiarity with front-end frameworks (React, Vue, etc.) and their component structures
- Understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA)
- Experience with prototyping tools and interactive design
- Knowledge of version control concepts (Git/GitHub)
- Basic understanding of design handoff tools (Zeplin, Avocode, etc.)
- Familiarity with usability testing tools and platforms (UserTesting, Maze, Hotjar, etc.)
- Experience with analytics tools for measuring design performance (Google Analytics, Mixpanel, etc.)
- Previous work on software for drone technology, robotics, or IoT systems
- Experience working in an Agile development environment
- Degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field
