Job description

Are you a hands-on network professional looking to operate and optimise ISP and data centre infrastructure at scale?

Can you work collaboratively across teams to ensure excellent service delivery for hundreds of thousands of customers across multiple countries?, We are seeking a Network Engineer to support the day-to-day operation, monitoring, and maintenance of ASK4's core ISP and data centre networks. This role offers a blend of hands-on technical work, contribution to automation projects, and support for dark fibre network rollouts. You will work closely with Second Line support, senior engineers, and the Head of Core Network to ensure our network runs reliably and efficiently.

  • Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot core network infrastructure, including routers, switches, and firewalls
  • Implement approved configuration changes in line with change management policies
  • Resolve escalated technical issues and escalate complex problems appropriately
  • Support new site deployments and dark fibre rollouts
  • Contribute to network performance analysis, reporting, and capacity planning

Automation & Continuous Improvement

  • Support network automation initiatives using Python, Ansible, Terraform, or similar tools
  • Maintain and improve monitoring, alerting, and observability systems
  • Identify opportunities to enhance processes, operational efficiency, and service reliability
  • Keep network documentation and runbooks accurate and up-to-date

On-Call & Incident Response

  • Participate in the network on-call rota, providing out-of-hours support for critical issues
  • Respond effectively to incidents following established escalation procedures
  • Occasionally visit data centres or exchange sites as required

Collaboration & Development

  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture
  • Develop technical skills in automation, scripting, and modern network practices
  • Work closely with Second Line support and wider Technology teams to ensure seamless service delivery

Compliance & Standards

  • Adhere to ASK4 policies, SOPs, and regulatory frameworks, including ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials+, and Health & Safety
  • Report any safety concerns or breaches
  • Maintain an environmentally responsible approach to all work

Requirements

Do you have experience in WAN?, * Solid understanding of networking principles, TCP/IP, and common protocols

  • Hands-on experience with routers, switches, and firewalls
  • Strong Linux skills
  • Experience in a customer-focused environment delivering technical support
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills
  • Well-developed planning, organisation, and prioritisation abilities
  • Collaborative approach and team-player mentality
  • Hands-on experience providing first and second line network support
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues under pressure

Desirable:

  • Experience with Python or other scripting/automation languages
  • Familiarity with Ansible, Terraform, or similar automation tools
  • Exposure to version control (Git)
  • Knowledge of network monitoring/observability tools (Grafana, LibreNMS, Nagios)
  • Understanding of OSPF, BGP, or other routing protocols
  • Experience in ISP or NOC environments
  • Familiarity with network OS such as Arista EOS or MikroTik RouterOS
  • Involvement in capacity planning for network infrastructure
  • Previous on-call experience
  • Interest in automation and infrastructure-as-code development
