Job description

An established engineering organisation operating within the defence vehicle sector is seeking immediately available Design Engineers to support global vehicle programmes. This role focuses on developing advanced vehicle protection and integration solutions that enhance safety, performance, and operational capability. You will work across the full design lifecycle, from initial concept through to production, contributing to technically challenging projects in demanding environments. This is a hands-on position within a collaborative engineering team, offering the opportunity to work with complex assemblies and specialist materials. Both fixed-term and day-rate engagement options are available for a six-month onsite contract.

Design & Development

  • Produce accurate 3D CAD models and detailed engineering drawings
  • Take ownership of mechanical designs from concept through to low/medium-volume manufacture
  • Ensure designs balance weight, cost, performance, durability, and manufacturability
  • Support design reviews, validation, and iterative improvements

Product Integration & Collaboration

  • Work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain teams
  • Support integration of specialist equipment into armoured vehicle platforms
  • Contribute to solving complex mechanical and integration challenges
  • Assist with prototype development and testing activities

Documentation & Data Management

  • Manage CAD data, Bills of Materials (BoMs), and drawing packs
  • Utilise PLM systems (Windchill preferred) for configuration and document control
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation to support production and compliance

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience within defence, aerospace, automotive, or comparable engineering sectors
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (Creo 9.0 or higher preferred; SolidWorks advantageous)
  • Knowledge of fabrication, machining, and composite materials
  • Practical problem-solving mindset with strong attention to quality and manufacturability
  • Experience working within structured engineering or regulated environments
  • Chartered status or working towards professional accreditation is advantageous
  • Must hold active UK Security Clearance
