Job description

We are seeking an organised and detail-oriented Document Controller to join our Highways team based in Northampton. This role is critical in ensuring accurate management, distribution, and control of project documentation across a range of highways infrastructure schemes. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, site teams, and external stakeholders to maintain robust document control processes that support compliance, quality, and timely project delivery.

Key Responsibilities Establish and maintain document control procedures for highways projects Manage incoming and outgoing technical documentation, drawings, and correspondence Ensure all documents are correctly logged, version-controlled, and distributed Maintain electronic document management systems (EDMS) Support audits and ensure compliance with quality standards (e.g., ISO) Liaise with clients, subcontractors, and design teams regarding documentation requirements Prepare reports on document status and project documentation metrics Archive completed project documentation in accordance with company and contractual requirements

Requirements

Previous experience as a Document Controller, ideally within highways, civil engineering, or infrastructure Strong understanding of document control systems and processes Experience working with EDMS platforms (e.g., Cemar, Aconex, Viewpoint, Asite, ProjectWise or similar) Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise across multidisciplinary teams Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously

Desirable Experience working on highways or infrastructure projects within the UK Knowledge of CDM regulations and highways standards Understanding of QA processes and ISO standards
