System Development Engineer, Core Network

As a System Development Engineer you will help to deploy, manage, fix and reinvent the software tools, services and components that network engineering rely on to automate our network and keep it operational. What you'll be working on:

• Identifying and solving challenging systems, process and tooling issues to make things better for our customers
• Designing and implementing entire new software components, products or services which improve operational efficiency
• Investigating technical issues thoroughly, performing root cause analysis, identifying changes to procedures and systems and implementing long term fixes to avoid repeating issues.
• Providing solutions to technically challenging real business problems in a global organization, A SysDE is responsible for maintaining and improving their team's services end-to-end, requiring them to troubleshoot and identify the root cause of issues that arise within their systems. They will design and implement testing, monitoring, and validation improvements across services, tools, and infrastructure to ensure their teams can continuously deploy new versions with minimal interruption. A SysDE will proactively identify areas to invent, refine, and develop automation and tools to reduce manual operations across teams, making pragmatic trade-offs to fulfill both current and future requirements of the business and their customers.

• Relevant experience in software development, systems engineering, SRE or DevOps roles
• Knowledge of professional software engineering best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Practical understanding of network fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing, switching, HTTP)
• Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (host networking, storage, *nix operating systems)
• Demonstrable experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, C++, C#, Java, Golang, Ruby

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with Python
• Experience of designing, developing or operating cloud services running on AWS or another cloud platform
