Job description
Puma Berry Ltd is seeking a highly capable Orchestration Software Engineer (SFIA Level 5) to support a major Defence secure platform in Corsham.
You will contribute to the design, development, build and validation of infrastructure automation components within a complex platform environment. Automation solutions are developed primarily using Python3 (low-level automation), Ansible (deployment), Jenkins (configuration generation and build pipelines), and Bash / PowerShell for OS-level automation.
Candidate must have an active SC clearance.
Role Overview
You will support the engineering team responsible for:
- Design, development, build and validation of infrastructure automation components forming part of the XXXX(D) platform
- Developing low-level automation using Python3
- Deployment automation using Ansible
- Configuration generation and CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins
- OS-level automation using Bash (Linux) and PowerShell (Windows Server)
- Production and review of design artefacts
- Supporting wider system testing activities
- Working with Service Management to diagnose and resolve issues
- Operating within Atlassian tools (JIRA & Confluence) for tasking and documentation
Requirements
Do you have experience in Virtualization?, Do you have a Master's degree?, Minimum 3+ years' demonstrable industry experience with detailed knowledge of:
Automation & Development
- Creating complex Python3 automation classes for production systems
- Advanced Python features (Workflows, DSC concepts, Bare Metal Deployment)
- Configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
- Bash and PowerShell scripting for OS-level automation
- REST/SOAP API integration
Infrastructure & Platform
- Automated deployment of server, network and storage technologies
- Supporting large-scale infrastructure environments
- Reverse engineering legacy/manual builds into zero-touch automation
- Troubleshooting hardware and software component failures
- Working within Agile delivery teams
Certifications (minimum one within last 5 years)
- CCNP (or equivalent networking certification)
- VMware VCP
- RHCE / RHCA
- OCA (Oracle Certified Associate) or equivalent
Additional Requirements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
- Competent in MS Office Suite
- Active SC Clearance (mandatory)
Desirable Experience
- Defence or wider UK Public Sector environment (ideally Defence Digital)
- Delivery of accredited secure UK public sector solutions
- Jenkins pipeline engineering and CI/CD environments
- Atlassian toolset (JIRA, Confluence, Bamboo)
- Large-scale virtualised infrastructure environments
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science (or related discipline), * python3 Automation: 3 years (required)
