Job description

Principal Firmware Engineer supporting the FPGA / VHDL hardware architecture, design, development, integration and verification activities across a range of projects and product lines in the fields of Flight Avionics (FLX).

This is a FPGA hands on role it will involve working closely within project teams to develop bespoke hardware solutions for Customers or standard reusable solutions for Product Lines and variants thereof. Given the nature of the business, it is likely that there will be an element of Design Assurance activity required with Customers and / or Aviation or Security Authorities.

The role will offer experience over a number of different product areas, encompassing everything from product design and development through to larger scale platform integration. The role will be focused around the core skills associated with a Digital Hardware / Firmware Engineer, and will include schematic capture, circuit design, Firmware (FPGA / VHDL) development, hardware integration, verification and design assurance.

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • To Lead on the Firmware design for Avionic Projects
  • Lead and provide technical guidance for a small team of Firmware Engineers
  • Design and development (digital and firmware)
  • FPGA Simulation, analysis & Debug
  • Deliver the Hardware/Firmware Qualification & Certification
  • Support the preparation of IVVQ Plans, development of Test Means and Test Schedules, and execution of subsequent tests providing evidence for functional and non-functional requirement acceptance across all planned test points.
  • Lead, own and deliver FPGA Engineering expertise and process knowledge to enhance company objectives and processes, effectively communicating and gathering support for them.

Requirements

  • Full FPGA Design Cycle and Timing Closure with experience of VHDL coding and Text entry
  • An excellent understanding of the fundamentals of High speed digital design
  • Good communicator who can work with multi-site & international teams
  • A proven & demonstrable record of Digital Hardware and / or Firmware design activities with relevance to the role
  • A BEng degree or equivalent in relevant engineering discipline (Electronic Engineering, Electrical and Electronic, or Communications)

It would be highly advantageous to hold demonstrable understanding of how to design for RTCA DO-254 & design assurance (all levels) or similar level design standards associated with working in highly regulated industries
