Job description
You will be responsible for the design, operation, and ongoing improvement of on-premises and hybrid infrastructure environments. This includes Linux systems administration, virtualisation, Kubernetes platforms, high-availability databases, and supporting networking components such as load balancers and failover mechanisms.
The role involves hands-on troubleshooting across the full stack - from operating system and network behaviour through to application and database interactions - with an emphasis on reliability, performance, and operational clarity. You will work closely with application and service owners to ensure the platform meets the needs of latency-sensitive and business-critical workloads.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Virtualization?, Our client are seeking a senior, hands-on Infrastructure / Platform Engineer to take ownership of a critical Linux-based platform supporting containerised services, high-availability databases, and real-time communications systems. This is a single contributor role, suited to an experienced engineer who is comfortable working independently and taking responsibility for production systems., This position requires strong technical judgement, the ability to work autonomously, and a pragmatic approach to balancing availability, security, and performance., Required
- Strong production experience with Linux systems, preferably Ubuntu Server
- Experience with Cisco and Fortigate.
- Proven hands-on experience operating Kubernetes in self-managed environments
- Experience with virtualisation technologies (e.g. KVM) and capacity planning
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, routing, NAT, and firewalls.
- Experience operating high-availability databases, such as MariaDB Galera or PostgreSQL with Patroni
- Practical experience with automation and configuration management, ideally using Ansible
- Ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues across multiple layers
Desirable skills:
- Experience supporting real-time or latency-sensitive systems, such as telephony platforms
- Familiarity with HAProxy, VRRP/Keepalived, or similar load-balancing and failover technologies
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Loki and Grafana
- Exposure to multi-site or disaster-resilient architectures
- Familiarity with DevOps practises and tool: Github Actions, Helm and ArgoCD.
