Job description
The Deputy Branch Manager is required to support the Regional Fleet and Logistics Manager in the effective day-to-day operation of the branch, with a focus on managing the Transport Assistants, Executive Driver logistics and vehicle movements across the designated area. This role ensures optimal resource utilisation, operational efficiency, and high standards of service delivery, while also contributing to team integration and departmental performance., * lead and oversee a team of Transport Assistants and Executive Drivers, ensuring optimal utilisation of time, vehicles, and resources to meet operational and client requirements
- schedule and coordinate vehicle deliveries, collections, and movements across the branch territory, ensuring timely and efficient service
- proactively confirm delivery arrangements with clients, ensuring smooth handovers and closure of the intervention process
- allocate jobs to drivers with complete and accurate instructions, ensuring all required paperwork is prepared, checked, and included in driver packs
- monitor and control operational costs through effective geographical planning, return trip optimisation, and real-time tracking of driver and vehicle locations
- identify and resolve potential logistical issues in real time to minimise disruption and maintain service standards
- support and coach new starters, ensuring effective onboarding, job training, and integration into the team
- monitor departmental absenteeism, taking appropriate action
- assist the Branch Manager in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the department
- maintain effective two-way communication with internal departments to stay informed of issues affecting vehicle logistics and respond accordingly
- take full ownership of team performance management, including attendance, attrition, and People-related matters
- oversee approval processes for expenses, overtime, and fuel usage, ensuring compliance and cost control
- identify and report concerns regarding vehicle roadworthiness to the Fleet team to support fleet utilisation and claims management
- allocate vehicles in line with business needs and operational priorities
- carry out reasonable tasks as requested.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Performance management?, You will be a confident and capable leader with strong logistical and operational experience, particularly within a transport or fleet environment. You will be highly organised, people-focused, and able to manage resources effectively in a fast-paced setting.
- proven experience working within a busy transport or logistics environment
- demonstrable team leadership and people management experience in a similar role
- strong aptitude for logistical planning, resource coordination, and operational efficiency
- high level of proficiency in handling performance management issues, including absence, disciplinaries, and capability processes
- excellent communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels, both internally and externally
- strong administrative and customer service skills, with a focus on accuracy and professionalism
- good geographical knowledge of towns, roads, and rail networks to support effective route planning
- logical thinker with clear and concise communication style
- solid IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as in-house systems and applications
- ability to remain calm and focused under pressure, managing multiple tasks simultaneously
- decisive problem-solver with a proactive approach to challenges
- confident and assertive leadership style, capable of resolving conflict constructively
