Job description
As a Mission Systems Engineer, you'll help shape the next generation of complex naval platforms by contributing to the development of ship designs and mission system integrations. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of defence, aerospace and engineering-where your expertise directly enhances national security and supports the Royal Navy's operational capability.
You'll play a key role in integrating Combat, Communications, Navigation and Network Systems into marine platforms, ensuring they are engineered, installed and delivered to perform in the most demanding environments. Your work will support concept development, early-stage design and major bids-giving you high-impact experience that will accelerate your professional growth and broaden your engineering capability.
Day-to-day, you'll have the following responsibilities:
- Supporting customer engagement to develop and agree clear and unambiguous system requirements.
- Generating and assessing sensor and weapon suite options for concept designs.
- Taking ownership of mission system compartments or systems through design stages.
- Supporting the specification, selection and management of external suppliers and services.
- Applying Mission Systems/Combat Systems Engineering principles within a multidisciplinary team.
This is a full-time position. The role is based at Devonport, Bristol or Rosyth. Hybrid working patterns are available (two days per week onsite).
Requirements
- Experience integrating Combat, Communications, Navigation or Network Systems into marine platforms.
- Ability to work effectively within multi-discipline teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications for the Mission Systems Engineer:
- Degree in an engineering discipline, or HND/HNC with extensive relevant experience.
- Membership of a relevant professional institution, with chartered status or a clear route to achieving it.
- Ability to achieve UK Security Check (SC) clearance.
- Ability to work with or on controlled goods, including ITAR-controlled technologies.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
