Job description

The SCRUM Master, Software Delivery is responsible for the planning and delivery of the software at OrganOx and will be actively involved in the entire Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), focusing on end-to-end ownership of software project delivery (initiation to closure).

The SCRUM Master, Software Delivery will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Electronics Engineers, Data Science/ML Engineers, Systems Engineers, QARA team, Operations and Field Service teams and PMO ensuring on-time, on-budget and in-scope delivery.

This is an on-site role in Oxford with flexibility, to ensure the creation and release of world-class software for OrganOx.

Listed below are the major responsibilities of the role and a brief description of some of the key tasks to be performed. This list is not totally exhaustive.

Major Responsibilities

Under direction from the Director of Embedded Software Development, the SCRUM Master, Software Delivery will be responsible for:

Agile & Scrum

  • Facilitation of Scrum ceremonies: Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Reviews, Retrospectives
  • Coaching teams on Agile mindset, self-organisation, and continuous improvement
  • Ensuring adherence to Definition of Ready (DoR) and Definition of Done (DoD)
  • Removing impediments and protecting the team from external disruptions
  • Coaching Product Owners on backlog refinement and prioritisation

Delivery & Flow

  • Proactively improving sprint predictability and team velocity
  • Owning the facilitation of backlog refinement and estimation techniques
  • Drive metric review (e.g. burndown, cycle time) to guide improvement and reporting
  • Promoting sustainable pace and quality-focused delivery
  • Coordinating cross-functional teams (software, systems, QA, regulatory, operations)
  • Tracking progress against plan and managing delivery trade-offs
  • Support and ensure ontime delivery of sprint contents
  • Coordination and management of multiple projects or workstreams in parallel

Project Planning & Control

  • Creating and maintaining project plans, schedules, and milestones
  • Managing scope, dependencies, risks, issues and assumptions
  • Ownership of budget, resource and capacity planning

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Acting as a bridge between development teams and stakeholders
  • Proactively and pre-emptively manage expectations regarding scope, priorities and delivery
  • Leadership of the dependency and criticalpath management, resolving delivery conflicts
  • Clear, regular and structured communication with senior leadership and stakeholders
  • Preparation of status reports, dashboards and executive updates
  • KPI definition and tracking
  • Facilitating decision-making and escalation where required

Governance & Compliance

  • Managing documentation, approvals and phase gates
  • Risk management and mitigation planning

Process & Methodologies

  • Tailoring delivery approach to project complexity and risk
  • Driving process improvements and lessons learned

Collaboration & Troubleshooting

  • Work in close partnership with cross-functional teams, to diagnose and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Adhere to the letter and spirit of OrganOx's Code of Conduct and all other company policies

Requirements

Do you have experience in Waterfall?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, * Proven track record of delivering high quality software in regulated industries, preferably in medical device development.

  • Focused and proven experience in managing complex software project and deliver products on time, preferably in regulated environments
  • Deep understanding of Scrum framework, Agile principles
  • Hands on experience with Agile tools (e.g. Jira, Azure DevOps, Confluence)
  • Demonstrable experience of working in regulated or quality-controlled environments and safety-critical environments
  • Proven track record in working within formal governance frameworks
  • Practical experience with Agile, Waterfall or hybrid delivery models
  • Strong experience with project and delivery tools (MS Project, Jira, Azure DevOps, Excel)
  • Comprehensive technical knowledge of standards and guidelines for developing safety-critical systems, with the ability to tailor compliance approaches to specific applications, maintaining strong focus on risk management, cybersecurity, scalability, maintainability, and reliability.
  • Proven experience in managing external technical partners, ensuring the quality of deliverables across all aspects of design control within regulated industries.
  • Demonstrable proactivity in identifying technical and project risks and implementing effective mitigation strategies.
  • Demonstrated track record of supporting process improvements to enhance efficiency and compliance.
  • Highly effective in applying problem-solving techniques (e.g. brainstorming, 5-whys, fishbone), supported by demonstrable structured and rigorous approach to define activities and achieve tangible deliverables with limited supervision
  • An effective communicator, who readily engages in a timely and proactive manner
  • Proven ability to collaborate in cross-functional teams

Technical Expertise:

  • A deep appreciation of agile methodologies, their implementation and best practices in software development.
  • Proven ability to produce documentation for the DHF (Design History File) with high quality standard and compliant with QMS requirements and related standards.
  • Strong demonstrable experience of managing internal and external stakeholders from initial engagement (i.e. design input) throughout the design and development phases, to acceptance of deliverables.
  • Strong focus on traceability, repeatability and compliance, without sacrificing or compromising on engineering quality

Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science or relevant engineering discipline
