Job description
We are looking for a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer who treats infrastructure as a true software engineering discipline. Rather than simply managing cloud resources, you will build and evolve the platforms that underpin the entire engineering organisation. You'll be the sort of engineer who believes automation is a necessity, not a luxury - someone who turns repeatable work into functions, scalable delivery into services, and manual toil into reliable, self-healing systems. Your work will enable teams to ship faster, safer, and with far less friction across the board., You will design, implement, and maintain complex cloud infrastructure using tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, or Crossplane. This includes writing clean, modular, and fully testable IaC backed by CI/CD pipelines. Your work will ensure the platform remains consistent, predictable, and easy to extend as the engineering landscape evolves.
Developer Tooling & Internal Platform Services
You will develop internal tooling - including CLIs, APIs, and automation services - that improves Developer Experience and abstracts away cloud complexity. These tools will empower product engineers to work more autonomously, with clear guardrails and high levels of operational safety.
Kubernetes Internals & Platform Engineering
You will go beyond day-to-day Kubernetes usage, contributing directly to the deeper operational layers. This includes developing custom Operators or Controllers, optimising networking and storage configurations, and ensuring our clusters support demanding production workloads with resilience and performance at their core.
Distributed Systems & Platform Architecture
You will design distributed systems that are secure, scalable, and resilient across multiple environments and accounts. This means shaping architectures that handle real-world load, avoid bottlenecks, and remain robust even under failure conditions. You will also contribute to long-term platform roadmaps, providing clarity on how to deliver value incrementally without accruing unnecessary technical debt.
Execution, Planning, and Cross-Functional Collaboration
You will translate high-level architectural thinking into actionable delivery plans that keep teams aligned and moving in the right direction. Working closely with engineering, security, and architecture teams, you'll ensure platform initiatives are well understood, well executed, and coherent across the organisation.
Requirements
5+ years of experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, or Cloud Engineering, including 4+ years building and scaling production-grade distributed systems in a commercial environment. You'll have a proven track record of delivering reliable, automated platforms in demanding settings.
Deep AWS experience, with hands-on expertise across services such as EKS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, Transit Gateway, SSM, WAF, and Network Firewall. You will be comfortable working with both high-level abstractions and the underlying mechanics that influence performance, reliability, and security.
Advanced Infrastructure-as-Code proficiency, with strong experience in at least two of Terraform/Terragrunt, Crossplane, or AWS CDK. You will build reusable modules, enforce standards, and understand the trade-offs of different abstraction levels.
Strong Kubernetes internals knowledge, including the ability to debug complex issues, write Controllers or Operators, and optimise cluster subsystems. You'll be expected to understand how Kubernetes behaves under varying load and failure scenarios.
Software engineering expertise in Go or Python, with the ability to write clean, production-quality code for automation, platform tooling, and integration services.
Security-as-Code practices, using tools such as OPA/Gatekeeper, IRSA, and Kubernetes Network Policies to ensure security is embedded into the platform from the outset rather than treated as an afterthought.
Experience operating multi-account/multi-tenant platforms, including delegated access patterns, shared services, guardrails, and consistent governance across environments.
Strong observability engineering practices, ensuring metrics, tracing, and logs provide complete operational visibility, proactive alerting, and rapid debugging capabilities.
A strong OSS mindset, keeping pace with upstream development, preferring open standards, and contributing back where appropriate.
You'll excel by
Communicating clearly and confidently, ensuring technical decisions are well understood across teams and stakeholders.
Mentoring and supporting engineers, helping others grow while raising the platform capability across the organisation.
Thinking strategically, seeing the bigger picture and designing systems that stand the test of time.
Collaborating effectively, working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver cohesive, sustainable platform solutions.
Working well in ambiguity, making sensible, well-reasoned decisions when full information isn't always available.
Taking ownership, driving initiatives from concept to delivery with a high standard of quality and reliability.
Documenting thoroughly, ensuring the platform is transparent, maintainable, and easy for other engineers to understand and build upon. Position Intro
