Job description

We are looking for a Tech Lead who will be responsible and accountable for all technology aspects within their project or squad and will be deeply engaged in the day-to-day technical work of their team. In this role, you will lead the technical design, development, and delivery of digital solutions, ensuring they are robust, secure, and scalable. You will act as the vital link between business objectives and technology implementation, combining hands-on technical expertise with leadership to mentor teams and drive excellence in solution delivery., * Lead end-to-end technical design and architecture for assigned solution areas, with a focus on custom-built scientific software applications hosted in AWS and integrated with lab and equipment software.

  • Translate stakeholder and product requirements into actionable technical tasks, ensuring clear acceptance criteria and technical context.
  • Drive operational excellence by implementing DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) best practices, including automation, monitoring, incident response, and continuous improvement of system reliability, scalability, and performance. Recommend and execute improvements to system design, architecture, and operational processes.
  • Oversee development and implementation of solutions, ensuring alignment with business requirements and enterprise architecture.
  • Maintain high standards for code quality, documentation, and test coverage; manage technical debt proactively.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (business analysts, solution architects, designers, developers, QA, operations) to deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • Take ownership of the technical health of the team's area, identifying and prioritising issues, delegating tasks, and escalating when necessary.
  • Mentor and coach developers and technical team members, fostering growth and continuous learning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5-8+ years of proven experience designing, developing, and delivering enterprise-grade digital solutions for FAIR data capture and management, ideally within the science, innovation, and labs domain.
  • Deep expertise in solution architecture, integration patterns, APIs, and cloud technologies (especially AWS), with a strong focus on operational reliability, automation, and security best practices.
  • Proficient in coding/scripting with relevant technologies (e.g., Java, JavaScript, AWS, Python, SQL), and hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., AWS CDK, Terraform).
  • Demonstrated experience implementing and operating DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices, including CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, incident response, automation, and continuous improvement of system reliability, scalability, and performance.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills, with strong communication abilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, with a track record of guiding and mentoring technical teams.
