Job description
We are looking for a specialised UI/UX Designer to join our C2 Core team in Paris. In this role, you will be the primary advocate for the human operator within a highly complex, machine-driven tactical system. You will enter a high-stakes environment where operators must make sense of massive amounts of data-from robot fleet telemetry to 3D scene localisation-while under extreme cognitive and environmental stress.
Your mission is to translate the advanced capabilities of our robot fleet and mission planning algorithms into an intuitive, frictionless, and zero-distraction Command and Control (C2) interface., * Tactical COP Design: Design the layout, iconography, and interactions for the Common Operational Picture (COP), ensuring operators instantly grasp the spatial reality of the fleet.
- Mission Planning Workflows: Create intuitive, drag-and-drop or click-to-navigate workflows for operators to set rules of engagement and issue commands without needing an engineering manual.
- Multi-Modal Data Display: Manage the interaction models for simultaneous high-resolution video streams alongside critical alerts and text-based telemetry.
- Tactical Design System: Build and maintain a scalable component library optimised for ruggedized, outdoor field screens (considering high contrast, night-vision compatibility, and gloved-hand usability).
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Sync daily with Product Managers, Frontend/Backend Engineers, and Algorithm Designers to align on technical constraints and hardware performance.
- Continuous Iteration: Establish feedback loops with field operators and conduct usability testing to ensure cognitive load remains manageable in the field.
Requirements
Do you have experience in UI?, * Educational Background: A degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Interaction Design, Human Factors Engineering, or Cognitive Psychology is highly valuable. A strong portfolio solving complex, data-heavy UX problems is the ultimate deciding factor.
- Technical Experience: Proven experience shipping production-grade web applications with complex data visualisation or real-time UIs for mission-critical systems.
- Domain Expertise: Experience in defence, aerospace, fintech, or high-reliability domains is preferred. Familiarity with defence products is a significant plus.
- Systems Thinking: A minimalist approach to design that prioritises function and clarity over aesthetics, understanding that "predictable is better than novel" in tactical environments.
- Technical Pragmatism: Ability to design resilient UI states for intermittent connectivity (latency/dropped packets) and physical hardware constraints like screen glare.
- Communication & Influence: Strong analytical skills to extract complex mental models from subject matter experts (robotics engineers and tactical operators).
- Commitment: 100% dedication to Harmattan AI's mission to bring a defensive edge to allied nations through ethical, high-impact technology.
