Job description

As an IT Technician for Richard Challoner School, you will have the opportunity to help keep our school running smoothly - powering teaching, learning and innovation through reliable, secure technology. This is a role where your support directly shapes students' success and gives you the chance to lead meaningful digital change every day., We are seeking a dedicated and proactive IT Technician to join our IT team; in this key frontline role, you will ensure high-quality IT provision that underpins learning, safeguarding and operational excellence.

Working under the guidance of senior IT staff and in close collaboration with colleagues across the school, you will provide responsive, hands-on technical support to staff and students. You will play a vital role in maintaining IT systems, resolving day-to-day issues, supporting classroom technology, and contributing to the smooth delivery of IT services.

As an IT Technician, you will:

  • Act as a first point of contact for IT support, responding to, logging and resolving hardware and software incidents for staff and students.
  • Support and maintain IT equipment including desktop and laptop devices, interactive displays, projectors and other classroom technologies.
  • Carry out basic hardware diagnostics, repairs, installations and upgrades.
  • Support network systems and infrastructure under the guidance of senior IT colleagues, including switches, patching and configuration changes.
  • Assist with system upgrades, audits and IT improvement projects, contributing to digital innovation across the academy and Trust.
  • Provide clear advice, guidance and informal training to users, adapting your communication style to suit varying technical ability.
  • Supervise, coach or mentor less experienced team members where appropriate.
  • Work closely with colleagues, sharing best practice and helping deliver consistent, high-quality IT services.
  • Support safeguarding by monitoring appropriate use of IT systems and escalating concerns in line with Trust procedures.

Requirements

Do you have experience in IT support?, We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about technology and motivated by helping others succeed., * Good literacy and numeracy skills (including GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above, or equivalent)

  • Knowledge of Windows 11 installation and configuration, along with desktop and laptop hardware maintenance.
  • Experience working within an IT support or technical services environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose issues and adapt solutions to users' needs.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • The ability to manage a busy workload and respond flexibly to planned and ad-hoc requests.
  • An understanding of IT security, data protection and safeguarding responsibilities, particularly within an education setting.
  • A willingness to learn new skills
