Job description

Are you passionate about ensuring Housing Allocation Policies are delivered fairly, transparently, and consistently? Do you thrive in a dynamic environment where your expertise can shape policies, strengthen processes, and improve housing outcomes for citizens?

If you're driven by fairness, transparency, and high-quality public service, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful and lasting impact. We are seeking an Audit and Policy Lead to join our Housing Solutions and Support Service; a role at the heart of how we design, deliver, and enhance our Housing Allocations service.

In this role, you will deliver a responsive, customer-focused service while ensuring compliance with the BCC Housing Allocations Scheme, relevant legislation, and best practice. You will work within a small, dedicated team committed to supporting officers, partners, and customers, contributing to a fair, transparent, and high-performing service.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to shape policy, improve operational practice, support system enhancements, and make a real difference to the lives of Birmingham's residents.

What you'll be doing

  • Providing expert advice on the Housing Allocation Scheme.
  • Conducting thorough investigations to ensure fair, consistent, and compliant service delivery.
  • Maintaining and developing the service's resource library, including policies, workflows, and templates.
  • Supporting policy research, review, and development, and contributing to training design and delivery.
  • Producing accurate performance reports and analysing complex data to inform decision-making.
  • Delivering training on IT systems, policies, and procedures to staff, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Working collaboratively across teams and with external partners to enhance customer journeys and improve service performance.

Requirements

You will bring:

  • Experience in housing services, ideally within allocations or related areas.
  • Strong knowledge of housing legislation, including Part 6 of the Housing Act 1996, statutory guidance, and local policies.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data, legislation, and evidence to produce clear, actionable insights.
  • Confidence using digital systems, including housing management systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build relationships, deliver training, and influence positive change.
  • Organisation, initiative, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Benefits & conditions

In return, we offer you excellent terms and conditions, generous annual leave, a great pension scheme, well-being support, annual travel passes and discounts at a number of city centre establishments.
