Job description

This role contributes to the technical expertise within our Cloud Platform function across Azure and AWS, implementing our strategy and roadmap, and contributing to the Design, Build and Run of our cloud environments. You'll be working across a modern, multi-cloud technology estate and are expected to cross-train in emerging technologies to provide a broad support range. Operating within a DevOps & SRE-driven culture across Technology Operations and Cyber Security, you'll support the platforms underpinning our multi-channel distribution systems including websites, mobile apps and colleague applications. You'll manage cloud services, support project demand, enable engineering teams and ensure stability, scalability and reliability across the bank's cloud estate. We're not just looking for a technologist. We want someone who enjoys engagement, collaboration and continuous improvement. Agile is at the heart of how we work. What you'll be doing… A Cloud Platform Engineer designs, builds and runs Virgin Money's Azure and AWS environments-implementing cloud strategy, enabling engineering teams, and ensuring platforms are secure, stable and scalable. You'll manage core cloud infrastructure, automate through DevOps and SRE practices, support incident and change processes, embed strong identity and security controls, and collaborate across Technology Operations and Cyber Security to deliver resilient services for colleagues and customers. You'll also contribute to continuous improvement, cross-train across emerging technologies, and support key transformation and migration initiatives across the bank.

  • Comfortable working in Agile delivery and operating autonomously on large-scale technical challenges.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proven knowledge of operational excellence: incident, problem, change and capacity management.

  • The ability to learn quickly and adapt as technologies, platforms, and priorities evolve. It's a bonus if you have but not essential…

  • Experience working with cloud control frameworks and regulatory standards.

  • FinOps: capacity forecasting, cost optimisation, cloud financial reporting.

  • Knowledge of Azure Defender for Cloud, AWS Security Hub, GuardDuty.

  • Containers & Kubernetes (AKS, EKS).

  • Scripting languages (Python, Node.js, PowerShell, Bash).
