Job description

We are looking for a skilled and forward-thinking Cloud Automation Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of automation and optimisation solutions across Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

This role will help improve operational efficiency, system reliability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness through the use of modern cloud automation and Infrastructure as Code practices.

The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise in cloud services and automation tooling, particularly Ansible and Terraform, and will play a key role in identifying opportunities for optimisation, delivering practical improvements, and supporting technical best practice across the team.

This role also includes technical leadership responsibilities, including planning, mentoring, and guiding others through example.

What you will be doing:

  • Design, build, and implement cloud automation solutions to improve reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency.
  • Lead automation and optimisation initiatives across Azure and OCI environments to improve performance and resource utilisation.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce operational overhead and improve cost-efficiency through automation and cloud optimisation.
  • Analyse existing environments and processes to uncover both strategic automation opportunities and quick optimisation improvements.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code and automation frameworks using tools such as Terraform and Ansible.
  • Work closely with technical and business stakeholders to ensure automation initiatives align with organisational goals and security requirements.
  • Support delivery of secure and compliant solutions, particularly within UK public sector environments.
  • Provide technical leadership within the team through mentoring, knowledge sharing, and promoting best practice.

What you will bring:

  • Experience working with cloud platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
  • Proven ability to design and implement scalable cloud automation and optimisation solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of automation and Infrastructure as Code tools, especially Ansible and Terraform.
  • Experience developing scripts, reusable frameworks, and automated deployment solutions.
  • Experience delivering automation or optimisation projects that improve operational efficiency, performance, or cost management.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify practical opportunities for improvement.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership, mentor colleagues, and contribute positively to team development.

If you are interested in this role but not sure if your skills and experience are exactly what we're looking for, please do apply, we'd love to hear from you!

Although this role is advertised as full-time, we support different ways of working and can offer a range of flexible working arrangements. So, if you're interested and need to work flexibly, we encourage you to apply and talk to us about what might be possible.
