Job description
AWS is seeking a System Engineer that will autonomously drive the design and implementation of new services, find ways to improve and automate our existing services, and provide escalation and mentoring for junior team members. They will be working in a large-scale, high availability environment, managing our Cloud Management, Automation, Storage and Simulation suite of services., Amazon has a collaborative, purposeful and enthusiastic environment where we "Work Hard, Have Fun, Make History." On a typical day engineers might dive deep into understanding the root cause of a customer issue, investigate why a metric is trending the wrong way and consult with senior engineers at Amazon. We own our services and believe in making out-of-hours support as painless as possible. To achieve this, we implement Operational Excellence best practices and strive to automate manual processes.
Requirements
The right candidate for this position has a strong technical background in Linux systems administration that allows them to approach any problem with confidence and ingenuity. They must be a "lifelong learner", embracing the rapid innovations in technology and understanding how to leverage them to continue to improve our products. They will be customer-obsessed, always looking to understand customer pain points and find resolution quickly and completely. They will be passionate about finding innovative solutions, and work proactively to solve potential problems and inefficiencies. And they must be able to communicate clearly and collaborate with others to deliver results with minimal supervision., Experience in site reliability engineering (SRE), systems engineering, systems administration, DevOps, security administration, or network administration
- Experience working with Linux
- Experience in systems engineering
- Experience in any of the following: Python, Java, Perl, PHP, Ruby, Bash, Shell or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing and developing scripts to automate operational burdens and reviewing scripting changes to ensure they meet the standards for maintainability, scalability and security
- Experience working in 24/7 production environment
- Experience with service-oriented architecture and web services
