Job description
Safety & Compliance:
- Authorise and manage live or potentially live electrical systems, ensuring safe systems of work.
- Implement and enforce control of hazardous energies procedures, including lockout/tagout systems.
- Identify electrical hazards, monitor arc flash risks, and ensure correct PPE is used and maintained.
- Manage access control, permitting, and electrical safety procedures for HV/MV/LV systems.
- Review, approve, and monitor risk assessments, method statements, and safe work plans.
- Ensure all team members are competent and trained for their roles; maintain records of training and compliance.
- Plan and execute safe electrical isolations, switching, and energisations, approving switching plans and system boundaries.
- Escalate any safety breaches or non-compliance issues to the responsible engineer or project lead.
- Participate in electrical incident investigations and ensure timely reporting of accidents or near-misses.
- Nominate a deputy of equal competency for periods of absence.
- Attend weekly High Risk Activity meetings
- Attend daily commissioning meetings, * Establish and maintain effective relationships with project teams, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Manage electrical safety communications via signage, notices, toolbox talks, and project updates.
- Provide regular system status updates to project managers and engineering leads.
- Lead toolbox talks, safety briefings, and familiarisation sessions for personnel.
Requirements
Do you have a valid Driving License license?, Do you have a valid Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS) Gold Installation Electrician Card, Electrotechnical Certification Scheme certification?, Do you have experience in Schematics?, * Qualified electrician with National Craft Certificate or equivalent; OR a recognised electrical qualification equivalent to Level 6 or higher.
- Completion of relevant HV, MV, and LV authorised person and testing courses within the last two years.
- Competent in pre- and post-connection testing, verification, live-dead-live testing, and fault diagnosis.
- Familiarity with electrical distribution equipment: switchgear, MCCs, ACBs, VSDs, panels, busbars, and sub-distribution boards.
- Ability to interpret SLDs, wiring diagrams, schematics, vendor manuals, and other project documentation.
- Supervise and coordinate subcontractors, ensuring compliance with standards and testing procedures.
- Manage commissioning from Level 2B to Level 5, including tagging and energisation approval.
- Oversee emergency procedures for safety lock removal or critical system interventions., * Senior Authorised Person accreditation up to 33Kv
- English proficiency - at least good level
- First Aid Certificate
- Local Authority Accreditation (will be provided if necessary)
- Proven experience delivering HV/MV/LV electrical infrastructure projects, ideally in data centres, DNO/IDNO networks, or power generation.
- Strong background in testing, verification, and supervision of electrical works, including cable phasing, energisation, and troubleshooting.
- 10-15+ years in electrical installation, project supervision, and managing large teams or subcontractors.
- Excellent knowledge of Data Centre electrical systems, design, testing, and commissioning processes.
- In-depth understanding of health, safety, and quality compliance in electrical projects.
- Strong IT, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple high-risk tasks under strict deadlines.
