Cloud Infrastructure Engineer - Contract (Inside IR35)

Location: Hanslope Park (Milton Keynes) or Central London - Hybrid (60% on-site) Clearance: Must be eligible for SC Clearance Duration: 6 months initially Rate: £500 - £550 pd (Inside IR35) Start: ASAP (subject to security vetting) About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to join a major public sector programme focused on modernising cloud services and delivering secure, scalable platforms. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to large-scale cloud adoption, DevSecOps transformation, and the build-out of secure Azure environments supporting critical national services.

In this role, you'll work within the Cloud workstream to design, build and maintain Azure services, support migration activities, and ensure solutions align with modern cloud, security, and UK government best practices. What You'll Be Doing

Cloud Readiness & Migration

  • Discovery of applications and infrastructure
  • Build and maintain Azure services and landing zones
  • Configure and operate Azure Migrate tooling
  • Contribute to migration readiness assessments and 5R evaluations
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines
  • Adopt Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or Bicep

Cloud Platform Engineering

  • Deploy and optimise cloud services across PaaS, IaaS and SaaS
  • Configure cloud networking (VNets, firewalls, endpoints)
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and operational acceptance
  • Support identity, access management, logging and security monitoring
  • Ensure cost optimisation and tagging standards
  • Apply Zero Trust principles in platform builds

Technical Consultancy & Assurance

  • Provide expert input to new services and technical designs
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to senior and non-technical audiences
  • Identify and mitigate risk across the delivery lifecycle
  • Ensure compliance with UK government security and cloud frameworks

Continuous Improvement

  • Analyse performance and contribute to enhancements
  • Refine tooling, patterns and templates to improve engineering standards
  • Share knowledge and support team capability development

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience building and migrating services to Microsoft Azure
  • Hands-on expertise with Terraform or Bicep
  • Experience delivering and operating DevSecOps pipelines
  • Deep understanding of cloud security, Zero Trust, and UK Government frameworks (NCSC, GDS, Secure by Design, etc.)
  • Experience working within secure or restricted environments
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills

Desirable

  • Microsoft Azure certifications (AZ-900, AZ-104)
  • AZ-400 (Designing and Implementing Microsoft DevOps Solutions)
  • Exposure to AWS
  • Experience with Kubernetes, serverless, Azure Functions, Logic Apps, Container Apps

Working Model

This is a hybrid role, requiring a minimum of 60% on-site at either Hanslope Park or central London. On-call participation is required (minimum 6 shifts per 28-day cycle). Additional hours may occasionally be required to support key delivery milestones.
