Job description
The Cloud Engineer will play a key role in designing, delivering and evolving the cloud services that underpin SSEN Transmission's digital transformation. You will work closely with both Project and Operational teams to ensure cloud platforms are scalable, secure, and aligned with modern engineering practices. A key part of this role is enabling teams to adopt and extend published cloud patterns-while also helping define new ones that support our transition to Cloud Native architectures.
You will help shape the future of our cloud platforms by contributing to technical strategy, influencing solution architectural decisions, and driving best-practice engineering standards across a growing multi-cloud ecosystem. Your work will ensure our cloud services meet the organisation's expectations around resilience, efficiency and high availability.
We're looking for a hands-on engineer with solid infrastructure delivery experience and a strong understanding of SDLC principles. This role suits someone who enjoys working in an agile team thriving on problem-solving, collaborating with others, and helping teams deliver and support cloud services at scale.
You will
- Engage with stakeholders across technical and business domains to understand requirements and translate them into secure, reliable cloud solutions.
- Design, build and deploy cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and CI/CD automation.
- Enhance cloud delivery processes by improving automation, engineering standards and tooling across the Transmission IT team.
- Embed cloud security and governance best practices, including identity management, resilience, auditability, networking controls and documentation standards.
- Contribute to the evolution of our multi-cloud strategy, influencing architectural direction and future platform capabilities.
Requirements
- Practical, hands-on experience deploying cloud services using CI/CD tooling and Infrastructure-as-Code.
- Strong technical analysis skills, allowing you to understand and map cloud requirements from diverse stakeholder groups.
- Excellent communication skills to articulate decisions, risks and solution options to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- A solid understanding of cloud architecture principles, particularly around enterprise-grade, multi-cloud environments.
- Experience with modern container technologies, such as Docker and/or Kubernetes, and an appreciation of Cloud Native design.
