Tech lead (Java / Kotlin / C++) - Professional Services Consultant

Our Professional Services team delivers tailored geospatial and mobility solutions across industries worldwide. We support the automotive sector with embedded navigation, infotainment, and driver assistance capabilities, and we also work with transportation and logistics, telecommunications, the public sector, retail, and emerging mobility providers. Across these industries, we help organizations use location intelligence to make better decisions, operate more efficiently, and deliver smarter digital experiences.

This role involves leading the technical delivery of customer-facing software solutions across industries such as Automotive, Transport, and Logistics. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of solution development, from planning and design to implementation and testing, while serving as the technical authority within your project scope. You will collaborate with internal stakeholders, including project, product, and engineering teams, as well as interface with customers around the globe. You will play a vital role in ensuring the successful delivery of software design, implementation, integration, and quality.

Key Responsibilities

Solution Scope and Delivery

• Analyze requirements and contribute to opportunity scoping, technical analysis, and effort estimation.
• Support backlog creation and refinement.
• Design and document technical solutions aligned with customer needs and architectural standards.
• Act as the technical authority within the assigned project scope.

Technical Leadership

• Define and communicate a shared technical vision across teams.
• Lead internal and external development teams to meet project delivery goals within predetermined timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
• Maintain a comprehensive system-level understanding by contributing hands-on to development, integration, and testing activities.
• Mentor and coach team members to foster growth and technical excellence.
• Drive adoption of engineering best practices and frameworks.
• Lead internal initiatives that support strategic engineering goals.

Communication and Stakeholder Management

• Communicate project status, risks, and dependencies to stakeholders.
• Translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences, ensuring clarity for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Serve as the technical point of contact between the program and development teams.
• Collaborate with Solution Architects on solution design and implementation planning.
• Coordinate with functional managers and program managers on execution and risk management.

We are looking for a motivated and experienced Principal Engineer to join the HERE Professional Services - Global Solution Engineering team., * 10+ years of relevant experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field

• Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant technical discipline
• Strong expertise in either or both of the following areas:

• Mobile / Embedded Development o Object-oriented design and system architecture o Android / Kotlin, C++, Java, Swift o JavaScript / TypeScript, Flutter / Dart, React JS o gRPC and modern communication protocols

• Backend / Cloud-Native Development o Object-oriented and functional programming o RESTful services and APIs o Stream and batch processing o Java, Scala, JavaScript o Kubernetes and AWS-based architectures

• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Passion for learning and the ability to evaluate and adapt to new challenges, like integrating new technologies.
• Proven leadership and mentoring capabilities.
• Effective communication, project and stakeholder management.
• Familiarity with Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD practices.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken).
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 10%

Would be a plus

• Experience working with automotive OEMs and system integrators
• Exposure to automotive software platforms and embedded environments
• Valid German driving license
