Job description

As a Member of Technical Staff - Hardware, you will be the driving force behind the electronic control systems that power our advanced optical architectures. You will be responsible for the end-to-end design, implementation, and execution of hardware that bridges theoretical physics and physical reality.

Your core focus will involve developing highly precise control electronics for complex projection and imaging components. This includes engineering solutions for locking and modulating laser frequencies, controlling spatial frequencies, acquiring crucial sensory data, and actuating various control elements. You will apply control theory to measure, adjust, and stabilise these systems, ensuring pristine performance in a laboratory setting.

You will integrate seamlessly into a multidisciplinary team, supporting and collaborating with mechanical, optical, and systems engineers to build cohesive product prototypes. Furthermore, you will be responsible for integrating your hardware into experimental setups using software interfaces, allowing the wider engineering team to control complex hardware through intuitive visual interfaces.

Operating at a lead level, you will not just execute tasks. You will shape the technical direction of the hardware team. You will interface continuously with cross-functional experts in simulation, hardware, and systems engineering to ensure that your designs integrate flawlessly into our broader technology stack.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Python?, To succeed in this role, you must be a rigorous hardware designer who understands both the micro-level electronic details and the macro-level commercial goals of a fast-paced deep-tech startup., * Multidisciplinary Collaborator: You excel at integrating your work into a larger engineering matrix, effectively supporting optical and mechanical experts to achieve shared system-level goals.

  • Agile Learner: If you do not already possess deep knowledge of specific cleanroom techniques, you have a proven track record of absorbing complex new technical domains rapidly.
  • Commercial Mindset: You think beyond the workbench. You understand how hardware choices, noise reduction, and system stability translate into commercial viability and successful industrialisation.

Technical Expertise

  • Optical Control Electronics: Proficient understanding of electronic control systems for lasers and optics. You must have experience in frequency locking, frequency modulation, and spatial frequency control.
  • Control Theory: A fundamental, highly applicable understanding of control theory, including signal measurement, adjustment mechanisms, and complex actuation.
  • Hardware Design: Exceptional proficiency in industry-standard hardware design packages. You can take a circuit design from a conceptual schematic all the way through to a real-world, executable application.
  • Software Integration: Strong capability in using Python, LabVIEW, and National Instruments (NI) hardware. You must be able to write the software necessary to integrate hardware into experimental testbeds and build accessible visual control interfaces.

Desirable Skills (Plus Factors)

  • CMOS & Cleanroom Processes: Knowledge of the hardware and equipment used in standard CMOS and cleanroom environments. Experience with the electronics underlying processes such as deposition, etching, and plasma cleaning is highly advantageous.

Benefits & conditions

Benefits & Compensation We recognise that our foundational team members are the engine of our success. To reflect your critical role in building Cnuic Technologies, we offer a highly competitive compensation package. This includes:

  • Equity Scheme: A generous allocation from our option pool, ensuring that as a fundamental builder of the company, you share substantially in our long-term success.
  • Life Insurance: Comprehensive standard life insurance coverage for your peace of mind.
  • Work Environment: A modern, state-of-the-art office space designed for both deep focus and team collaboration. This features dedicated recreational areas where you can step away from the desk, unwind, and recharge.
